Yes, I need someone to cut my radio bezel in order to fit the avic-z1, because I dont have the balls to do it. I want to keep the zc unit where it is and keep the ash tray as well. It can be done because I have seen it. Who is up for it????
The C5 has 1.5 din opening...the Z1 is a 2 din opening. So something has to give for the extra space to be aquired. Do you have a picture of this is install you speak of? Personally I have modified many bezels to fit dbl din units and larger and every one I have moved the ac unit.
hey eatrice, there are a few of the members on here that have what he describes. usually it involves just cutting the divider bar and trimming the upper part of the radio surround
Yeah, most of the ones I have seen have had the AC unit relocated to the ash tray area. I know there is one member here that still has everything in it's stock location, but he did have to have the piece under the radio notched to allow the avic Z1 to fit. Goodluck on your hunt, Brandon. I know someone out there can help you out in this area.

Cool...I would like to pictures. Does it look like it belongs or like it a piece of cut plastic?
depends... some look like cut plastic and i've seen a few that have been done where it looks close to factory. for the life of me i can't remember the member who has (imho) the best looking one. i just remember that he did do some remolding and the original piece he started with was pretty beat up.... maybe he'll step forward
I just put a z1 in my vette. I did not move the a/c unit. However, I did have to cut the bezel at the top and remove the piece between the radio and a/c unit. I am in the process of trying to make an addition to the bezel to clean up the look. When I get a chance, I will post some pictures.
I just installed a double din Eclipse Avn5500 in my C5. I shaved the bar between the radio and A/C about half way and also trimmed the top just a hair so the unit can flip down. Once the stock head unit was removed, I had to trim out part of the bracket in the back to allow the radio to slide farther back. The unit is a very tight fit because of the A/C ducts behind the radio. I think most people drop the head units down because there is more room there. I wanted a stock look. I try and post pics soon!
Where was this site about a month ago. Many threads have been looking for something like this for quite sometime. The only problems I see with this is (1) no pics of their work and (2) I was told to cut it properly, so it will as stock as possible, it would have to be matched up with the radio for exact fitment. I don't know anything though! Just my $.02
