Default C5 Audio Upgrade ??

This may have been covered but I could not find it. I have a 99 coupe with Bose audio. I would like to keep the stock head unit and changer but replace everything else with aftermarket. I have a 50Wrms X 4 channel alpine amp and one set of 6.5 polk audio speakers already from a past car. I would like to run one pair of 6.5 polks in the doors and another pair replacing the rears. All 4 polks would be used as stereo mid bass and tweets. I would then like to run a single 10" sub in the rear compartment for lower end. My question is, can I run two pairs of 6.5's using channel 1 & 2 off the amp ? Would I bridge 3 & 4 for the single sub ? Can this configuration be done with the stock head unit? What type of wiring adaptor do I need to use for this set up? Can the amp handle the parallel speakers on front channel 1 & 2 ? What is the best location for the amp in a C5? I'm looking for clean and clear not loud and thumping. Any help or suggestions with this would be greatly appreiated. Thanks

Yes you can do all of that with the factory head unit. Is it recommended for what you asking...no. If you want the best possible sound then you should use an aftermarket head unit.

To keep the stock head unit you will need to an aftermarket adaptor. Like the sven4 http://peripheralelectronics.com/web/loc.asp

You will need to run new speaker wires.

Personally I do not use the rear speaker locations. They are too close to the drivers head. The door will house both 6.5" drivers if you are looking for max volume. If you use a front and rear on the same channel you will not be able to fade front to rear. But your amp will not have a problem driving two sets of speakers. The sub on the mono channel will be fine.

As for amp location there are not alot of options. Most people put it on the luggage tray in the hatch. You can mount behind one of the seats but then it limits the amount of rear travel distance the seat has.

Hey Jeff, you came to the right place to find out specifically what you need for what your trying to install. You asked me a couple of questions in regards to this matter and concerning a sub box on ebay. You will find out tons of info here, sometimes more than you bargain for, lol. Anyways glad you found the Corvetteforum. These guys do a great job explaining the specifics. As you said, I am local to you, and would gladly help you out with a box.

Thank you both. If door room is not a problem, Would I be better off just using A 6X9 in the doors? I think I would like the rear speakers used because I cant hear the music very well with the top off and driving on the interstate. I know I would not have fade control with this set up but I'm looking for cabin filling stereo. I take it there is no way the amp could go under the seat ? Does the SVEN4 have to be spliced in or does it have a plug that taps into the factory harness? I'll get the car out of storage this weekend and look around for a amp location. Should I trust the local Rogers stereo to install this equipment or take my time and do it myself? Thanks again

If you have time to try and do it yourself, then I definately would. This way it would provide a learning experience and you would know more about your corvettes audio aspect. When I first started into the car audio, I didn't know too much and still don't on some things as I'm still learning, but I had Rogers Stereo in Greenville install my headunit and components in the doors and coaxials in the rears. They did a excellent job on my installation, so I can't say anything negative in that regards. I also have heard good things concerning Tweeters, but I have no personal experience with them in installation. I did do the amp wiring for both my 4 channel and my mono amp though. I just didn't feel comfortable splicing into wires, etc. doing the HU.

If you go with an amp with balanced differential inputs, you will not needs any adaptors to connect the amp to the outputs of the factory deck. JL Audio A Series or Slash series amps have these inputs. There is also a Stealthbox for the C5 that is pre-loaded with a 10" driver.

Get the pac adapter its the most plug and play piece plugs right into the stock harness and bam rca outputs cant be any easier no splicing etc.

C5s are easy cars to install on even a novice with some time should be able to do it

I'm affraid I may screw up the panels trying to remove them. Where to get an adapter plate to put the 6.5's in the door ? I already have the amp and it only takes rca's.
