You should be able to do a similar set up I did on my 05. I installed a line level converter with RCA outlets to a rear speaker. You just need a signal to fire the sub amp anyway. I then ran power and a ground wire to the rear area where I put a JL 250/1 amp. Its a signal on amp so no need for a remote wire. Connect the power, ground and 2 RCA input wires from the line level converter and all that is left is the sub. JL has great subs also. Lucky for the C6 there is a custom one that fits in the rear corner area. Total cost about $900 in parts and about 4-5 hours taking my time doing it. You also need a kit that has all the wires from Crutchfield. Steve Germany has write up's in here too. The sound is good (no matter what some may say) with this set up and it is not real intrusive. I would use JL as they are clean and clear and real good quality.
Yeah...the C5 faq's will be a good source to look. It will show you among other things, where to get the power wire from the engine bay into the car for the amp.
Yes, you will need an aftermarket amp to power the sub. You can buy or build your own sub box. You will need to get an adapter to get the signal from the factory headunit and give you RCA outputs. I, and many other people, use the PAC aoem-vet1 adapter.
It should not. I have an aux input box (came with the car, so I am not sure what it is specifically) and I was able to add the PAC aoem-vet1 adapter to get RCA outputs for an amp.

Does thie PAC aoem-vet1 adapter plug into the head unit?
The PAC adapter is a "Y" where you disconnect the big plug from the factory HU and plug it into one side of the PAC. The other side plugs back into the factory HU. There is only one wire to splice and that is the remote turn-on wire for the amps. There are directions with the adapter about how to do this splice....really easy to do.
I got mine from LogJam Electronics. It was $68 to my door.
Good deal...I think you will be happy with the improvements. Depending on your skill level and time, you can make your own sub box. There are also a few suppliers here that you can purchase from too.
Obviously making your own is the cheapest way. I did mine and it was pretty straight forward using the plans in the FAQ's here. It was dirt cheap.
Its a very fun and easy car to work, on Ill be posting pics of a C5 I did today later on tonite. If you arent afraid to get your hands a lil dirty you will have a blast doin a sub etc
