Default Completely confused! Help on replacing BOSEŽ speakers

OK, So, I have made the decision to install an in-dash mobile video system. The problem I've discovered is a new HU is not compatible with the Bose door speakers.

I am not looking for a killer system. Just something that sounds as good (or close) to the existing Bose system. Thus, I'm looking at replacing the door speakers and using the HU to power whatever new speakers (probably non-component) speakers and the rear speakers. Ive already got a 100watt sub tube I can run off Sub-out from the HU.

My Questions are???

Is there a wiring harness adapter for whatever HU I decide to use that will do this? Or, is the entire process cut/splice? (hope not)

Given the door replacement speakers will be mid price range 6.5 or maybe 8's, will the typical HU power these OK - again - not going crazy on the 'ultimate' sound system?

Presumes also to leave existing rear speakers and adding line level RCA to Bazooka sub tube.

Does this plan make any sense?

Most important quesiton is about the wiring harness....what has to be modified on the Delco/Bose HU to change over to another aftermarket system?

Thanks

My advice: Run new cables to the doors, it is easier than you think.

And BTW, those puppies in the picture will not fit into the door

What about a wiring harness? Any issues? What about interaction with BCM?

Actually, you can add a new head unit to the BOSE system without modifying any wiring to the car.
Made by Peripheral by AAMP of America, the parts you need are as follows:
SVHGM4 -General Motors
1997-03 Corvette Delco Bose Premium Sound System radio
replacement smart harness for SVEN2.
and...
SVEN2 - 2 CHANNEL SUPERVEN

SVEN2
Two channel Premium Sound Interfacing Device.
RCA level or speaker level input or output.
The SVEN2 is perfectly suited for replacing the factory amplified system and retaining the OEM radio or for Premium OEM headunit replacement.
Can also be used as a standard line output converter.
Note: 60 watts maximum input per channel.

Simple plug and play operation. This should work for you... I will get the prices from work tomorrow for you, if you'd like.
Hope this helps!!

Wait a minute... I just reread your post...

Are you wanting to replace the BOSE head unit and keep the BOSE speakers (as I described in answer to the first section of your post), or replace the speakers, and keep the BOSE head unit? Now I am confused...

Confusion is contagious!

Plan is to remove Delco Head Unit and replace with aftermarket head unit/in dash video player/GPS....

I've been told that none of the aftermarket HU's can be made to co-exist with the Bose speaker/amplifier system in the doors.

Thus, my questions. If they can be retained and be made to function, I'll go that route. But, from all I have seemed to read thusfar, that the front door speakers must (with the amp) be removed and replaced by other speakers.

At issue is the changeover wiring harness and how to connect it to other components that could be affected (like throwing codes for Radio). Also hear tell for the 'switched ignition/accessory' wire must be re-routed to the passenger side footwell and tap into a switched circuit there.

Any help or suggestions would be apprecaited.

Thanks

Ok, well what I posted above is from the AAMP of America site, located here. We sell this line at the Car Audio Shop I work for, so I will call my rep tomorrow to be sure about this piece.

They also make a piece, part number GMRAP that allows replacement of the factory head unit, and gives you the retained accessory power to the new aftermarket radio. If you do not desire this function, you can run a wire to the fuse box to get your 12V switched accessory power. Info on the RAP piece can be found here. Scroll about halfway down the page to read about it.

I hope this helps, and I will find out all the deatils on these pieces for you tomorrow as well as pricing.

Thanks for the tips, but that is still not exactly what I'm after.

To keep it very simple. OK.. I will remove the OEM head unit and will remove the Door Bose speakers and amps. Will re-wire door speaker wire to new set of component or coaxial (not sure yet) to be powered by the new HU. (I know... don't count on great sound). May or may not run rear speakers as-is or different kind, also HU powered (for now). Will use RCA sub out to 100 watt bazooka tube to make up for the bass lost when OEM Bose comes out.

Sound like a workable plan? Again, not after some killer sound system.. just adequate...for now - will go back later an amp everything up. - can only justify part of this expense now, NOT another $500-750 for additional amps/speakers for doors and subs.

So, then, WHAT Harness kit do I need to get to adapt the GM plug to the new HU plug? I know I have to take yellow/red (one of them) to fuse #23 in kickpanel for retained b+. What else needs to be left alone or changed on the crossover from OEM plug to new HU plug?
