Default Tweeters for Stock Bose

I finally added new Infinity tweets to my stock Bose
system. Sounds a lot better, but not quite as good
as I'd like it to be. I would like a little more crispness
in the sound when treble is turned up. Is there any
way I could add a set of small tweeters to the stock Bose
system without replacing the whole system. Other than this
the system sounds great since I added the sub and amp. Any
help is appreciated. thanks.

Kind of hard to do with the factory HU and its selective speaker filtering (sending certain frequency ranges to certain speakers), couple that with the stock HU being set up for a 4 ohm load (gess would be about 15w RMS) which would mean if you wired the 2 tweets + the factory 3.5" speakers in series for an 8 ohm load (the only save way) you would cut your watts in half, which I would be hesitant to say would be worth the trouble in the first place for the "possible" sound improvement.

If it were me I would save for a new HU and some front components and deal with the new sounds for as long as it takes to save the $$$ to make the change from the stock blose stuff. You could even opt for a nice 6.5" or 8" replacement to the stock woofer (coaxial or component) and pick up a 45x4 watt HU and be quite happy with the improvement.

Then again you might want to just save for another small quality 2 channel amp + a set of components and a new HU and complete the removal of the stock system and do your music some justice

Thanks for the info Fej. What about adding a small amp to the tweets
to boost sound, or would that create an overload on the HU and fry the unit?

Hmm, you would have to get signal to that amp, and use a combination of the built in high pass crossovers on the amp and the stock passives that come with the tweets in order to make sure they stay in the right frequency range. I am not that familiar with the adaptor but would you have to split (IE Y) the rca cables that supply the sub amp currently or will the adaptor send out 2 sets of RCA's?

Then again you are kind of tossing a bandaid on the problem and spending more money to fix it (IE the purchase of another small amp) plus making the effort to run the wiring etc just to hopefully improve some sound. And to be honest I am not sure that the tweets are the problem with your sound, I think it has to do with the fact that the stock blose system does not actually have a true "tweeter" in the system and therefore may not be sending a full frequency range signal from the HU to your replacement Infinity speakers. You may only be getting a signal to say 12k hz and having it trail off into nothing ..adding some tinniness to your highs and making them a bit unclear. For all that I know the range may even start lower than that before it starts to fall off. There was a thread about this a few months back but no real tests have been done as to the frequency range of the bose system and its playback.

I still like dealing with what you have at the moment and looking into a new HU + amp + component set. You will be much more happy in the long term without wasting money on bandaids for the pathetic blose system.

G'luck

I think you're right. Will live with what I have(which ain't bad)
and start looking for parts for a total makeover. Thanks for all
the help.
