Default Will the C5 center console destroy my IPOD battery?

I just got a new Ipod (last battery would not hold any juice). It is the 30 gig with photo and video. I also have an Alpine head unit with the Ipod add on. I keep my Ipod in the center console when hooked up to the system but notice there is a lot of heat in there. I am thinking this was partly to blame for the battery in the first Ipod going bad. Will this heat affect the latest generation Ipod? Is there a better place to move the Ipod to?

There was one forum member that mentioned having the same issue with his iPod due to the heat from the tunnel area; he too stored his iPod in the center console and his iPod's internal HD crapped out

Not sure if it would help but possibly installing an aftermarket tunnel plate (something from Elite Engineering or LAPD) to cut down on console temps might be a solution. You would also get better chassis reinforcement to boot

I decided not to use the center console for storage of my iPod, I just throw it in the glove box. I have a docking station installed in the cupholder so when I'm using my iPod, it's physically connected in the cupholder dock. I need to keep the iPod within easy reach if I want to switch between songs since I'm still using the factory HU.

But since you have an Alpine HU, you don't need to have your iPod close by right (you control your iPod through your Alpine HU)? Maybe you should move it to the glove box...

I think that is what I am going to have to do for piece of mind. I was looking into the tunnel plates but since I don't race my car, it doesn't really squeek and I don't have an internal heat issue (aside from the Ipod), I decided against it. Thanks for the reply.

You're welcome

I have the CDA-9857 in my DD (Ford Probe) and I absolutely love that deck; I bought it solely for the iPod integration and it rocks

i may be that member that larry is talking about. my ipod crapped out on a cross country trip while it was stored in the center console. Luckily it was under warranty.

those ipods are also massly produced and the chances of failure are higher. Ive seen many fail just on their own within the first year. Nice that it happens under warranty. Also remember that there is a hard restart on those ipods if they freeze. I forgot the button combo on them. its like the menu button and select button at the same time till you see the apple come up.

I've had the same setup for over a year. I haven't had a problem, but guess it wont hurt to use something to insulate it from now on.

Edit: Just had a thought. I had my car dynamated front to back. Might be that it is providing enough insulation.

By the way, hows the AM with your Alpine? Only complaint I have with mine. They screwed around with it and never really got it to pull in stations as well as my 10 year old Mercury.
