Default fiberglass resin Q. how much does a gallon cover?

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how much coverage a gallon of resin would cover.

maybe someone could estimate how mush a gallon would cover on a a single layer of mat, or cloth laying flat, in sq feet?

I am trying to estimate the cost of some projects I have thought up.

And on that note, in some searches I have done on the net, I came across some hot tub sites that claim they use 4 layers of mat to build a hot tub. any idea on how much goes into some body panels?

Bill, what are you trying to do? A gallon of resin goes a long way. Also are you getting 2 (equal) part resin or standard 14 drop per ounce resin. Epoxy resin is the best for almost anything you would resin. I would estimate 1 gal of catalized resin would do 4 sheets at proly 6'x6', mabey more. Unless you're talking about mat. Because mat is thicker it will take more. After you lay the galss and resin cover it with thin plastic(bread bag thickness) and work out all the bubbles. After its dry the plastic will pull right off and you will have a product similar to vacuum formed fiberglass. Any questions, pm me. I have a lot of experiance with glass.

Thanks for the reply.
I have several things in mind actually. This one was aimed more so at making a bed cover for my truck. tonneau cover I guess they are called.

I also have a body kit I want to make molds of. I would like to attempt a second set of body pannels to have on back up, since replacing them would cost me a ton, or be impossible to get. I know this would be a huge task, and I really need to get a lot of practice in before I attempt this.

other projects I have been working on, a sub box, which I have begun, and used some glass on it, but I am now having a change of plans on that, which would require me to use a lot more glass, because I want to shape it more with curves and angles (something I could not do with wood too well). I tried doing a cold air intake on my C4, but left it 1/4done because I ran out of time on it, and decided a better way to build it.

I've never tried the plastic trick, thanks for the tip. So you can roll over the plastic and keep your roller from getting trashed and in need of a cleaning.

Bill, if you attempt the bed cover, there is a matting thats about 3/8" thick used buy pro glassers. The stuff I saw was at a certified man bucket( like PG&E bucket trucks) repair shop. A bed cover is a big project. Good luck
