Default components - 6"x9" vs. 6.5"?

Any obvious advantage from one over the other?

I'm no expert but I spoke to an old buddy who owns a car stereo store for over 25 years, I was trying to decide between an Infinity Kappa 6-3/4" round or 6 X 9" and he said that for volume and efficiency the 6 X 9 was my better choice.

yes, most 6x9's are generally more effiency, meaning louder at the same given power input than a 6.5" speakers but than again. most higher quality speakers are usually less effient anyway - they trade off effiency for sound quality.

A 6x9 will usually give slightly more bass output because the overall amount of cone area is a bit more than a 6.5" round speakers therefore it pushes more air but the shape of the cone being oval rather than round also makes the cone weaker and not able to withstand as high of a level before it will start to break up and distort. A round cone is stronger given the same cone material.

This is one of the main reasons that while you may see some "OK" quality and some "better" quality 6x9 speakers there really aren't any very high quality or audiophile quality 6x9 sized speakers. They just can't accomplish the same sound quality as a round speaker.
