I have a 1992 C4 with the stock Bose Gold system in the car. The rear speakers most of the time have a loud squealing noise emitting from them. I can turn the radio up (sometimes) and not hear it or sometimes it is at such a high volume I just turn the radio off. Sometimes turning it off and on makes it go away. It will also pop loudly while this is going on. I have unplugged each of the rear speakers one at a time and it it still makes the sound. If I unplug the left the right does it and vice versa. I have unplugged both so I can listen to the radio through the front speakers to avoid this embarassing situation. It really is loud when it does it. What is going on with this car's stereo? I have read all through the audio sticky's and searched but could not find any leads in the search directory. I know nothing about car sound systems so if anyone can provide help I would be very grateful. Thanks!

this sounds like a classic case of blown caps on the amp.

I reference it in the C4 Audio FAQ... and I think there might be a link to a fix somewhere within the FAQ...

I would look more to the grounds, maybe even rewireing the rear speakers with thicker wire. Maybe a 14 GA would work as it would be thick enough to stop any interferance that MAY be happening. Honestly its really hard to isolate what exactly is going on. Work from the easy fix on up like pulling the radio out to check the grounds. The most important one you need to be looking at is the rear speakers (DUH) ground, it might be wired with both grounds into one then all you need to do is make sure it is solidly grounded to a ground point.
