ive heard nothing but great words from people about focal.im currently building a system for my C5 as well and im going to put focals in mine just because of what ive read and heard about them.just not sure if im going 2 or 3 way comps yet lol
I am in the midst of designing my system for the car. I am leaning towards 3-way. I figure there is more room to tune the system if I ditch the passive crossovers and go active. Also, I'm thinking with a 3-way system, you can put each driver more in it's sweet spot.
Of course, a 3-way system is more complex and there can be bleed over where two drivers are playing the same frequencies near the crossover points. This is minimized using steeper slopes (but if you are using the passive crossovers with the components, you are stuck with what they give ya )
I'm hoping Fej looks at this post in regards to the Polyglass series vs Polykevlar. I know he prefers the Polykevlar but I know my wallet would prefer the Polyglass. I figure anything is better than the Bose.
i wouldnt mind goin the 2 way route so that Im not obsessing over the minute details and bleeding over and what not. I want it to sound good but not have to spend every other day tweeking it. I dont know

im in the same boat. i dont know a thing about tuning speakers and thats why i was leaning towards 2 ways myself but the thought of the sounds i can get from 3 ways but its the no knowledge thing thats hurting me but i know im going with the polykevlar instead of the polyglass as fej has.
I think you can have your cake and eat it too in this case. Get a 3-way setup from Focal (or any other good brand) and use their passive crossovers. They have design teams that have probably tweaked those crossovers more than I ever will try to.
This way you get a very good setup (3 way) while the only thing you have to do it put some power into the crossover and then run speaker wires up to the drivers. So, you only need a two channel amp at a minimum (although most 3 ways want somewhere around 200w RMS and hence you may choose to get a 4 channel and bridge down to 2 channels).
I didn't mean to discourage anyone with my previous post. A 3 way system can be plug and play using the crossovers supplied with the components. I'm just thinking I may want to tweak crossover settings myself later on. Or maybe I'll just leave it alone and use the crossovers supplied with the components.

Dave when your deck comes in and we put it in, You can take a listen to my 2way components as well as a few buddys and see what you think. Focals are hella nice though
I have the 165V3E, which I beleive is the same woofer and tweet and they sound terrific in my car. Really happy with them.
No, the 165V3E and the 165V1 share nothing in common save the actual material of the cone. Everything else surrounding the V3E is more sturdy and performs better. (Cone surround, crossover, tweeter material, etc.)
For a vette, I'd recommend four systems:
Polyglass -
165 V2
- Titanium (as opposed to aluminum) tweeter
- 75 W RMS
- 2 Way
- Easily concealable behind stock grill, if you're happy with placing it there
--
$449
165 V3E
- 80 W RMS
- 3 Way
- Flush mount tweeter in doors/A-pillar.
--
$749
K2 Power (New Polykevlar)
(This is what I standardly use on all my daily drivers)

I have Focals in my white TalonTsiAWD. They are NOT cheap

I like three ways, if for no other reason, that each speaker gets to do what it does best.
this was an easy post, everybody already wrote what I believe
Let us know how you like it when you get the components installed. I'd be interested in meeting up with you to see it...err, hear it. I'm still undecided between CDT or Focal 3-ways.
