Default How to instal 12 cd changer !

Hi

It's coming out of a 98 and all l am getting is probably the cd changer itself. And l am greatly thankful for the cd unit.

What else will l need besides the mounting brackets (GM) and some kind of harness (GM).

I have the 02 coupe is this pre wired or should l just bring it into a pro?

Is there a secret where the cd changer is stored as far as which compartment? And how should l or the pro run the wires from the cd changer to the unit in the dash.

And lastly and most important do l have to alter anything in the car as far as holes and such?

I just checked with Ecklers catalog and they sell the bracket and harness for the 99-04. So this must mean something that l am not aware of. Could this mean that l will need a custom harness??

Thanks

Alan

i think that the harness comes with the car, but i'm not sure. if you need the harness, the factory one runs down the passenger side. the come mounted in the center bin from the factory and make sure it's vertical. i dont recal seeing a h/v switch on the unit when i took mine out. if you mount it horizontally then it'll probably skip like mad.

Default Harness problem???

After going through previous posts l now realize that the biggest problem is with bringing the wires from the front to the back on the passenger side.

I will have to leave it up to the pro's or else l will be sorry.

Thanks

I would love to install an 12 disc changer and was thinking I could get one from a stereo shop which has changed out a factory unit for an upgrade? Or is the junkyard a more likely place?

seriously, runnning the wiring is not bad at all. taking the seat out and part of the interior may seem daunting, but its really not. Dont worry, just label everything and take your time. It'll be a chance to get to know your c5

you do not need to remove the seat to install the harness, just a few trim panels.
it's an easy install.

Default wire routing

When you pass on the side of the passenger seat what route do you take to get to the rear cargo hold. Do you have to drill a hole?

And the brackets attach to what?

Thanks Guys

the harness follows the path of the other harness going to the rear of the car, the harnesses go behind the trim panels,

Default ???????????????????????????????

Hi Thomas

It seems that you have done this, for a novice do you think that l am capable or should l just buy the kit and got straight to the pro's.

By the way sharp machine that you are driving.

Alan

p.s. I just saw the instructions and while they seem straight forward l'm concerned about blowing it. I am not looking to save a dime to lose a quarter.

Thanks!

It's all "plug and play", no screwing it up.

if you need the changer harness you might as well just buy the GM kit, it has the harness, mounting brackets, and install instructions.

if you can use a screwdriver then you can do this.

or, buy the kit and take a ride down here. I'll install it for you.
I live down the parkway, about an hour south of you, near Atlantic City

The CD changer is coming out of a 98 so it's a pioneer unit from GM. I checked Eckler's catalog and they have a kit but it's for a 99-04. Even though l would get the kit from GM only l was wondering why the kit was marked from 99-04?

I will probably stop by my dealer and question it because it could be something as simple as a connector change?

Alan

Thanks for the offer.

Thanks for the offer.

maybe because the '97 and '98 corvettes don't have one of the connectors (3 wire) in the passenger footwell, they only have the 4 wire connector.

there is no difference in the CD Changer or harness from '97 up to '04.
