Default Parrot Bluetooth - Anyone Have one?

How do you like it? We have an Acura TL that has built-in Bluetooth. Was wondering how the Parrot compares to it in functionality and ease of use.

ANyone?

I have heard good things about Parrot and Motorola. Think I will get Motorola based on all the reports of how clear it is. I like the fact that the Parrot uses the cars own speakers though. Do a search, one forum member put a complete "how to" install for the Parrot.

Hey, Thanks!.

1. How does the voice activision work? Is it sensitive and reliable enough to be useful with the top on? How about with the top off?

2. Can you label phone numbers with voice descriptions? If so, can the system use the voice designations from the cell phone or do you have to reenter all of them on the Parrot?

3. I believe it mutes the stereo when a call comes in or you decide to place a call. Can you confirm?

4. I guess it's too much to ask to have the NAV send the phone a number of a place you want to go. This works in the Acura...

Thanks a bunch for helping me...

BTW, the unit cost me $50000! I sent an email to the wife because I thought it was interesting and would be a great gift once I bought the C6. But she bought for me BEFORE I ordered the Vette. So now I HAVE TO buy a new C6!

Hey, Thanks!.

1. How does the voice activision work? Is it sensitive and reliable enough to be useful with the top on? How about with the top off?

Unfortunately, i have never once used the voice dialing activation with this unit. I have a treo650 which has an old crappy blue tooth interface and that creates some problems. For one, the bluetooth on the t650 is passive so i would say at least one out of 5 times the two would not sync up so i end up having to make one phone call just on the phone but the second call goes through ok. i do not have a convertible so i cant comment on how well it will work, but i regularly drive in the 90+mph range and it works fairly well even at those speeds. also, with the t650 i have not found good voice dialing software so i just gave up on voicedial altogether and just do it the old fashioned way.

2. Can you label phone numbers with voice descriptions? If so, can the system use the voice designations from the cell phone or do you have to reenter all of them on the Parrot?

again, not really sure, but i believe that the parrot is independent of the phone's voice dials.

3. I believe it mutes the stereo when a call comes in or you decide to place a call. Can you confirm?

yes. there is a wire which is designed to apply voltage every time that happens. i have an alpine head-unit which specifically has a lead in wire for that. it works great with the alpine because it not only mutes it but if ur listening to a cd or ipod it actually pauses it. you have to however confirm that your corvette radio can be muted with a wire lead.

4. I guess it's too much to ask to have the NAV send the phone a number of a place you want to go. This works in the Acura...

no experience with nav. i have never really owned one. i think acura's interface was designed from the ground's up to work well with phones. everyone elses' was an afterthought. i did have a defective lcd display out of the box, but other than that it has been ok. it is not perfect but i much prefer it to a headset. also, i chose this over the Motorola because it had the display which is helpful for me, especially if you leave ur phone in the trunk or something similar.

Thanks a bunch for helping me...

Supplementing 041molaZHP's response above:

Firstly, we have the Parrot 3200 LS (Missus got it from London for me for Xmas/Chanukah) in a C6 Vert and we both use a Razr cell phone.

"1. How does the voice activision work? Is it sensitive and reliable enough to be useful with the top on? How about with the top off?"

We use the address book/voice activation of the Razr through the Parrot. Strangely, the Parrot actually works better than the voice activation on the Razr. Often, with the Razr, I find myself repeating the address or just giving up and dialing it. With Parrot, I have seldom had to repeat a voice command - but be prepared for a slight delay from giving the command and hearing it repeated by Parrot - but you'll get used to it.

With the top down, unless you are going extremely slow (read parked at a light), forget about using the Parrot - way too much noise (which merely shows how good it is at picking up noise). We have no problem with the top up. Have not tried it yet with the rear wind breaker in, windows up and top down.

"2. Can you label phone numbers with voice descriptions? If so, can the system use the voice designations from the cell phone or do you have to reenter all of them on the Parrot?"

As noted above, Parrot recognizes the Razr voice activation commands. In addtion, the 3200 can learn its own commands, however, we have not used this feature as yet.

"3. I believe it mutes the stereo when a call comes in or you decide to place a call. Can you confirm?"

See the prior post on the link to "How to Install the Parrot" - It is chock full of great info. If properly connected, it will mute the radio, CD and XM.

"4. I guess it's too much to ask to have the NAV send the phone a number of a place you want to go. This works in the Acura..."

No can do - as 041molaZHP stated, Parrot is an aftermarket system We got the Parrot primarily because of the ridiculous rates charged by On Star. We wanted hands free ability when calling and love techie toys. We kept our On Star service and can get that luxury service of dialing reservations, etc from them and don't have to waste valuable expensive minutes on local calls.

Overall, we love the Parrot. We plan to add one to the Missus' C5 daily driver. You have the benefit of being hands free while driving without looking the Borg began their assimilation process and decided to quit after they plugged your ear.

Enjoy

I have one in my '05 Malibu.

Work great. Cost is reasonable. Use is with my Motorola cellular. Sound through the speaker system in the Malibu is perfect.

BTW - make sure the installer places the mic in the area above you (drivers side).

Also, ask the installer to hide the 2"x 1" 'on/off' unit - otherwise it looks like something a kid needs to break into your car for (don't aks me how I know this!).

Works fine with Nav system with XM Radio and CD upgrade to play MP3's

Although I have not been on the Parrot when being given driving instructions by the Nav system - so can't say for sure whether the Nav system will override the sound cut-out; however, since the Nav system cuts out the sound being played over the speakers, it would seem likely that with sound being disabled by Parrot, it would also shut the Nav lady up as well.

Now if only I could find a good way (read costing less than the iPod) to hook the iPod into the sound system
