What the hell, something to do. Which one do you think would sound the best? (The answer may surprise you, but it's just my opinion obviously.)

The Sonata system has my favorite head unit but it doesn't sound the best.

Oddly, the best sounding system is the cheapest one. In the Suburban. I don't know what happened there, maybe it has something to do with the extremely large interior volume, but that system is just fantastic sounding. Very transparent and you can hear/feel each lick of the instrument as if it were right in front of you. It has very long path lengths to the front separates so the imaging and sound stage is as good as I've ever heard in a vehicle. Every time I crank up some Tom Petty or Bowie in that rig people are astounded at how good the music comes together.

Hey that is just what I want for the Vette. A single set of components and a single sub. Not quite as much volume as a burb though.

If I got to pick a system out of those four I'd choose the Ford 150's system......did I just type Ford
How do the 6.5" JL subs sound? Are they mounted in the rear speaker locations?

Hardware wise, that system is the one that I'm most proud of. It was my first serious system and I spent a ton of time researching every component. It is also a system I could never get to sound natural. I never again purchased metal dome tweeters because of it. I tweaked and I tweaked and I tweaked, I even had two shops go over it with their RTA's and whatever but nothing gave it a warm and natural sound that I wanted and heard in other cars. The F150 is a standard cab so its interior volume is the smallest of the three and perhaps that played a role. For dual tens in sealed enclosures it never hit with authority, again maybe the small cab was the reason. Musically this is my least favorite and I never bought Quart speakers again.

The 6.5" subs were mounted in the B pillars, next to the back seat in the factory woofer locations. Fiberglass enclosures were built behind them. Not too bad sounding really. People never believed there wasn't a sub box somewhere until I dared them to find it. Nice detailed bass. I'm not a bass head so they were fine for my needs. Pics are below. Near the bottom.

I am going to have to vote the Z28.

I agree with your assessment that the MBQs are rather harsh and not very musical. You have to work the xovers soooo much to get anything out of them.

It's why I went with Canton all those years ago.
