I'm looking for an aftermarket keyless entry system for a vehicle that came with power locks, but no RKE option. (it's a 2005 Chevy Astro van, I know a little OT, its my rainy-day/Walmart car when I don't drive my vert)
I saw a few examples, but they seemed extremely cheesy, cheap and non-durable. I was hoping to find something that has the quality/durability of the OEM system.
Checking on line, most of the car alarm companies are now owned by Directed Electronics. Clifford, Viper, etc, are all owned by the same company, just marketed differently.
Anyone have suggestions on a good quality brand RKE system? I checked into the OEM route, but it looks cost prohibitive due to a wiring harness difference.
I am also looking at the VKE 1000. There are 2 part numbers for this item 12495638 which was replaced by the 12497735. So far I have found the following:
12495638 available @ Jerry Kelley Pontiac, Adel, Ga 229-896-1555
Dewey Barber Chevy, Warrior, Al, 205-647-0538, $127.14 plus tax
12497735 available @ Vintageparts.org $90.30 plus 19.95 S&H
Jim Burke Chevy, Birmingham, Al, 205-787-8629 $129 plus tax
Jacky Jones Chevy, Murphy, NC, 828-837-2322
1stchevyparts.com $90.30
The VKE1000 is actually a DEI product. The module and manual are virtually identical to what you get in any of the DEI brands.
I picked up a Valet 712t at Circuit City for $59 which is like the VKE1000, except it has more features and built in relays for most of the functions. Haven't put it in yet, but it is nearly identical and half the price, and you don't have to buy additional relays to get it working.
