Default [Question] Decent Speaker Upgrades for C5

I have an '03 Z06 with stock BlOwSE sound system. Now, I'm not an audiophile or anything but after reading here and there, it appears that the common rule of thumb is the quality of stock speakers are usually not even half decent and replacing them will improve sound quality.

I'm not looking for total improvements (will still keep the stock head unit/amp/wiring) but I'm wondering if at least the aftermarket speakers offered by Crutchfield will improve the sound produced. Crutchfield sells at least one upgrade speaker for the 3.5" ($80/pair) in the front door and two kinds for the 5.25" ($40 and $50/pair) in the mid panel that fit w/o mods.

Here are the URLs to them:

- Front Door 3.5" $80
- Mid Panel Speaker 5.25" $40
- Mid Panel Speaker 5.25" $50

I figure these probably can be had for less money in eBay, but I haven't checked. Are they worth the money ?

Thanks.

Yes the sound will get better, but one work of advise, crutchfield is very high priced. IMHO.

I guess I found the $50 speaker much cheaper on eBay (many auctions with $0.99 opening bid with only $6 shipping and no bid on them right now).

Now, the question is, will they work with the stock BOSE system ?

OK, I read the FAQ and from what I found verbatim:

Quote:
How Can I get better sound while keeping the bose head unit?
Upgrade speakers

The easiest way to get better sound from the stock head unit is to simply swap out the in door 'twiddlers' with after market 3.5” speakers. You also have the option of swapping out the rear speakers with 5.25” speakers for the frc/z06 and convertables, and a 6.5" speaker for the coupes.
So, do I still need the SoundGate thing if I just want to swap speakers ?
