Default car computer

Anyone done a car computer hook-up for their sound system? I've been doing a little lurking on the mp3car.com sight but haven't seen any references to corvettes. I would like a 7" fixed screen and about 40GB of memeory for mp3 storage.

I am pretty sure that's what Scott_fx has done.

I know a guy on www.preludeonline.com did it too.

that'd be what i have. Check out my sig for my write up. My system is under another revamp, going digital now with an alpine dsp processor.

eatrice is also in the process of doing this too.. his will most likely blow mine out of the water

If you need help or have questions let me know. also check the c5 audio faq for some other tips on modding your radio surround.

if you are interested i also have some things for sale including my linedriver/cross over.

Scott got me into it. I am actually in the process of installing 4 computers in different cars including my C5. I am molding a 7" Xenarc into my dash and 10" in the hatch. It is really amazing what can be done with the computer in the car.

Scott you into the XMPCR?

i'm actually going to impliment the xm direct box. frodoplayer has some stand alone software that will control it through the car computer. all that is required is for you to make (or buy) a special serial to mini-din cable

OK...I am thinking of that also but I just bought a couple of XMPCR units and going to make them have optical output. It is controlled through USB. Also I have a program that records the stream and turns it into MP3's.

I too have been looking into putting one in my vette. I have been reading on mp3car.com for about a week or so now, and am just overwhelmed with info. I'm still completely lost on what all I have to do. I think for now I am going to order the screen (Xenarc), slot load DVD-R/CD-RW and order an extra center console, and start trying to shoehorn all of that together.

Question for you scott. Do you suppose I could get the 8" Xenarc 800TSV to fit in the dash where yours is? I looooooove how yours looks and fits in there, but if I could squeeze an 8" in there, that would be great. My plan was to put the 8" screen in, and then put the slot load DVD drive in the small space below it. What do you think? Can it be done? I'll probably be bugging you a lot in the next few months while I'm trying to figure out a system for mine.

sorry about this... it slipped by me, i havent been checking the forums as much lately. you could fit an 8" in there, i've seen it done, personally i think it detracts from the interior though. but that is just my personal opinion.

if you are overwhelmed with the info you should consider copying my setup. i've spent the hours and the money on trying other setups and i'm very happy with what i ended up with. check out the link on my sig and i think i have a break down of everything that i used on page 3 (may be page 4,5,or 6 but i think it's 3 )

feel free to bug me as much as you want...it's a cool toy to have in your vette
