Default Need some troubleshooting help for my subwoofer installation

Okay, here's the deal. I purchased a very inexpensive powered subwoofer (Bazooka TA850) to get a little extra bass for my tunes. I'm not looking for anything "booming" or ear-splitting loud, I just wanted something so I can hear my tunes above the wind noise and sidepipes in my convertible, nothing more. I hooked it up to my head unit (Sony CDX-F7700), but I'm not getting any sound out of the Bazooka. Here's the lowdown...

* Grounded the ground-wire to a bolt in the chassis.
* Ran the power-wire from the battery (as stated in the instructions, run directly from the positive terminal post of battery, not from a fuse point or anywhere else).
* Connected the subwoofer from the back of the head-unit (using the supplied pre-outs) to the Bazooka tube using a Scoche 17 foot RCA patch cable.
* I ensured the yellow quick-disconnect jumper loop was plugged in.
* Inserted the fuse into the appropriate spot on the power wire

I turned on the power to my car and the radio was playing fine...all speakers were working (2 front 4x6 speakers and 2 rear 6x9 speakers) except for the Bazooka (nothing). I checked the settings on my head-unit and the Sub setting was turned on and showed that it should be getting something.

Any ideas???

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like you did not connect the turn on wire. There should be a wire going to your head unit along with the RCA cables. This wire actually turns the amp on inside of the bazooka tube. The larger power wire supplies the power once the amp is on.

Yup sounds like it. just run a small wire from the amps remote terminal and splice it into the sony's blue with white stripe wire and then you should be all squared away

Another quickie test would be to jumper between the power lead and the amp turn on lead. Just be careful not to short anything out.

I just tried this (hooking up the orange remote wire to the Sony blue-white AMP wire) and still no luck. I double-checked all the connections and they all seem fine. I also checked the fuse on the Bazooka's main power wire and it seems okay.

Any other ideas???

Thanks.

Like the others have said, you should have the blue wire from the Bazooka tube connected to a remote turn on lead. You should have the power wire, turn on lead, ground and RCA's all hooked up to the Bazooka. Also, check the gains on the Bazooka. You may have it turned all the way down. I can't think of anything else. I've had Bazooka tubes in a number of my vehicles (2 powered tubes) and that is all you need to do.

I think this thing is deffective. I've got all the wires connected, including the amp power turn-on wire, but still nothing. I've tried everything. Man, how frustrating. Maybe I should just return the thing and get something else.

Nevermind...got it working...I changed grounds. Apparently the ground I originally had it connected to wasn't good (the bolt was quite dirty, etc.). I changed to a ground that was free of paint and grime and now it's working. Thanks for the suggestion onaqwst!
