Ozzie,
I've never been a big fan of Apple and Steve Jobs. I've read the reviews on other mp3 players and you're right, there are other players out there making products that compete with the iPod on price, value, and feature content.
With that aside, the two factors that sold me on the iPod were: aftermarket support for direct connection into the factory stereo AND ease of use. The iPod uses a Click Wheel that is located on the front part of the unit. The learning curve for this Click Wheel is very minimal!! Once you get the hang of it, it is simply the best all-in-one controlling mechanism on the market (in my most humble opinion

) You control virtually everything on the unit from this single point. Some like it, some don't...for me, I find it very easy to navigate my way through my playlists and songs when I'm in my Z.
I looked at the Creative Labs players and definitely would have considered one if there was aftermarket support for a DIRECT-CONNECT solution into the factory head unit.
