Default Sattellite Radio antenna mount & ground

I'm looking into Sirius Satellite Radio for my Vette coupe, but the antenna requires for best reception, grounding it to your roof with a magnetic antenna base. I see two problems here for Vette owners. Where do you people with satellite, mount your antenna and get a good ground to the frame for decent reception ? Does anyone have it mounted inside ? I called customer service at Sirius, she sounded hot, but didn't have a clue. Please help me Vette Satellite radio subscribers.

I just have my antenna sitting on the dash right under the window. Works just fine.

I don't have any pics (will try to post some later), but I ended up mounting the antenna under the glass hatch. It sits on top of the plastic trim piece that houses the tonneau cover. It's mounted just to the driver side of the lever that holds the roof in place when you've got it stowed in the cargo area. The wire is easily run under the weather stripping around to the forward area of the cabin. To secure it, I removed a mounting screw, cut a piece of 1"x1" sheetmetal, drilled a hole through the middle, and used the mounting screw to secure it to the interior piece. It's then a simple matter to mount the antenna using the magnet. Works very well back there. Signal is clear, it's out of the way, and looks great.

I did what Flexo did, but no screws, no ground, just double sided tape.
It works great, the ONLY time I lose reception is when I driving along some a street with huge trees up against the road, and I don't think grounding will affect that, it just needs line of sight to the satellite.
I was very pleased that it worked fine through a tinted window. I didn't want it on the outside at all.

Mine is an XM system (Alpine, terk adapter) for whatever thats worth. If your doing an aftermarket install, I don't think there's any difference between the two.

You guys with the antenna mounted on the rear compartment running XM have to remember that there are XM antenna's mounted locally all over the country. In fact, there's one on the building next door to my work. They get some perks from XM for putting it there.. XM has a MUCH stronger signal, right now, than Sirius does, but it's only a matter of time.

I had my Sirius antenna mounted there(back panel, inside), and lost the signal more then I had it. it's now at the top of my glass, on the outside. It's barely noticeable, and I have not ONCE lost a signal.

Then again, it could just be my area, I really don't know.

Good luck, either way.

I tried mounting an XM antenna on the dash of my C5 coupe but had too many dropouts - our area is very hilly. Over the weekend I mounted it with double sided tape to the top of the glass on the rear hatch. That glass is black on the c5, so the antenna is not obtrusive, and the reception is much improved.
