Default [Total Newbie] Replacing HU. What will I need?

I really want an MP3 deck so I've decided to pick up an Alpine CDA-9853 HU. Not looking to add a lot of stuff as I am not really into the whole sound thing. What else would I need to make this HU run after I take out the stock HU. Where can I get a plate so the HU will fit the big ass hole that the stock radio will leave. Also I heard that the bose woofers won't work if I take out the stock radio. Should I replace front speakers as well? any info and tips would be appreciated. I am a total newbie to this and even the most simple tips and advice are welcome.

I need to learn more about how C5 bose systems are put together... then I could answer this for ya.

I am sure that there will be someone here who can help!

The headunit will run the front door twiddlers (3.5") and the rears. The subs in the doors WILL NOT work unless you buy an adapter. It would be much better and more cost effective to save the money on the adapter and replace the door speakers entirely. You should also replace the rears with a good quality coaxial. I just got finished with this on my '98. If you need custom front door speaker mounts, forum member 'vroomvroom' makes them custom for a great price!

Lets's say I take out the woofers and put in bigger aftermarket speakers in their place. Would I lose a lot of bass? Would I need to run new wiring from the HU to the doors?

It would be much better to run new wire, but if you don't want to, there is a solution. In the door wiring that plugs into the Bose sub unit, you can cut the positive and negative speaker wire and wire it to the new speakers. I believe the colors are gray and tan on the driver side and green and light green on the passenger side. Note, there are two tan wires and two light green wires. Try them both, one will only give you mids and highs and the other will give you full range. I tried it and it worked, but I ended up running new wire.
