Default Alpine CDA-9855 or 9853...anyone have one?

Im looking at changing out my old 7800 series Alpine deck for the 9855 or 9833. I am looking for feedback on these decks specifically the new slide bar navigation design. I plan on integrating an Ipod with this deck and the slide bar navigation feature looks awesome.

Anyone?

I belive these are due out in April which is the "new model year" for Car Audio products. I think the 9855 and 9833 replace the 9835 and 9833 respeceively. I have the 9835 and its the best HU I've ever owned.
The slide bar thing looks pretty cool.

Ok, thanks Leo. I thought maybe someone had one early. I guess I will have to be the guinea pig on this one.

I have a 9833 and am extremely pleased with it, If i where buying
now a 9855 or 9853 would be at the top of my list ( 9833's are cheap
at crutchfield now ).

Crutchfield has awesome customer service, but they are usually way over priced. However, this is not a bad deal considering you got the installation kit, wiring harness, and install instructions for free. I paid $400 for my 9835 last June on ebay, and that was a steal.

Is Crutchfield an authorized Alpine dealer (ie will apline honor their warranty?)

yah, they will honor the warranty. i agree they are normally overpriced, but the 9833 for 299 with free shipping is unbeatable. i couldnt find it for that cheap on ebay when i bought mine.

I am glad you all like the 983* series units. I have enjoyed the several Alpine decks I have had over the years, but I am curious how this new slide bar navigation system is going to work. Im so used to having the standard preset buttons on the face, that it's wierd to have no preset buttons at all.

Phoenix.. I think you did good on the price with Crutchfield.

Evil.. If I had a complaint about the 9835 it would be that the preset buttons are a bit on the small side. Sometimes I have to rest my hand on the shifter to make sure I press the right one. Alpine maximized the space for the display, and I think the buttons suffered as a result. This is only a minor complaint. The most important controls like source, track up and down, and subwoofer and volume levels are very user friendly. I'm looking forward to seeing how the slide controls work.

I'm thinking of picking up the 9853. At the crutchfield site it said that i will lose the 8" woofers, is that true?

Yes, that is true. There are 4 speakers in each door, you will lose 2 of them in the door unless you buy a PAC OEM 1 adapter.

The 9833 and 9835 have 26w x4 while the 9853 and 9855 have 18w x4 so is there something better on the 9853 and 9855 other than the slide bar to offset the lower power output?

Fast one, I dont know. I dont use the HU to power anything so to me the power rating is irrelevant. I think they are using a new type of display on the 9855 as well as the touch/slide bar on both.

Can I just replace the big woofers with some good speakers? Any reccomendations??? I don't wanna spend 90 bucks on an adapter when I can replace the speakers alltoghether.
