Mounted the Mids Today

I repaired the lack of angle at the top of my mounts so i was able to mount the front mids today.

The original bose had a butyl type sealant around its perimeter so i decided to do the same. I'm sure it will help it be more secure and maybe help with vibration.

Once installed it was time to remove the unwanted fibreglass. I used my electric die grinder with a flush cut router bit. Made quick work of it but the dust managed to fly everywhere.

Hopefully tomorrow i will find time to install both subs

Looks great man! almost stock the way you countersunk it and painted the mount yellow. Are you using the factory bose speaker grille to cover it? And where do you plan on mounting the tweets?

Hell, I thought you were putting it on the OUTSIDE of the door panel. My bad. Your earlier post made me think that.

You're going an entirely different way than I am, but thats even better, we can compaire what we did. Different points of view are great....even if other people on this forum dont apprecaite them.

Did you put any Dynamat on the door skin? You wouldn't need much but it would help with any possible buzzing and rattles.
Cut 3 strips 2"X12" and criscross them on the skin. A little Dynamat will go a long way for controlling buzzes and rattles.
I built kickpanel pods for my '65 and the body skin between the door and front fender buzzed like a MF.

Yes, i'm using the stock bose grilles front and back. I'm going to put some double sided tape on my tweeters and move them around till i find the best location.
On a side note.... it is going to be +11c today. Hows the mid west doing

Thanks, i have been thinking about dynamat and i really should locate some. I have two 8'' JL subs going in the rear so i'm sure i will have to chase quite a few buzzes and rattles

I too am suffering from the 'too damn cold' problem. Its hard to drill a screw in when you're shaking from a 20 mph headwind. Im way behind tho, im having to fix some door panel parts that have warped a bit from the 900 degree Texas sun, so im investing in a heat gun today. yay!

My car originally had the silver leather interior option, where the interior was 30% black, 70% silver - so im also changing alot of the interior over to black leather....so Im also waiting to get in some black leather I ordered to do some trim peices here and there....so thats slowing me a bit too. Im in no real hurry though - its not like I drive the car every day. It maybe sees 50 miles a month. Im also grappling with the idea of just buying a high priced / quality comp set for the front, and dump the 8" idea. That would be the easy way out, but after trying out 8" midbasses in the doors, its a hard sell. Im also building my own crossovers, which I havent even started yet. Again, I may just wimp out and buy a nice comp set. Im teatering on a decision. I guess if I could find a super high end comp set used, id proably go that route. Its also hard to do that too, I dont mind buying a subwoofer used, but when it comes to mids/highs, you dont know whats been done to them used. Decisions.....
