Sounds friggin awesome, I love it. The components are:
Pioneer Premier DEH-P760MP head unit
Polk components in custom mounting plates in the doors
(powered by Alpine amp behind passenger seat)
2 JL Audio 10" W3's in custom built fiberglass boxes
PPI 500w amp pushing the subs
fully peel & sealed interior (po' man's dynamat)
both amps grounded to b-pillar AND battery (Optima red top)
The whole idea and one of the reasons for this install taking so long are the two separate sub boxes. This design allows for the glass top to fit nicely in it's holders in the back hatch. (Props to Nick(B4Z) for the idea and help on the project). The storage compartments on either side provide room for the sub's needed airspace. Good idea, just damn hard to pull off!!!
Anyway, check out the pics and let me know what y'all think. The only thing lacking now is some carpet or some sort of trim piece to finish up the look of the sub boxes back there, and to clean up the amp wiring a bit. But for now, it's finally done and I'm happy as a clam
Clever idea on the sub boxes. And I love that PPI amp. How do you like the Polk components, I've never heard them. My only comment besides the thumbs up for a pretty good looking install is your tweeter placement. If you pull off the bose grille with and put the door panel on, see if you are covering up the tweeter. I think you'd be happier with them in the door pull or door panel. At the very least, you can install them in the bose grille.
are your cones going to hit the glass top at full excursion?
it's close (and looks closer in the pics than it actually is) but there is a good inch or more between the cone and the foam edge of the subs. we've cranked the crap out of the system to check the clearance and there's no contact

The Polks sound badass, I was shocked by the amount of bass they put out when we first tested them (before the subs were installed). I've limited the bass they put out so the subs can do that job now.
Like was mentioned above by another poster, they are pretty low, I kinda wish they were mounted higher or maybe at least aimed up higher. The tweeter is right on the edge of the opening, but yea it would definitely sound better mounted up on the a-pillar or door pull. Not something I've really looked into or know how to do! lol
Here is a pretty easy and cost effective option. Just make sure you will clear the glove door on the passenger side. Aim them up at the opposite side head rest and I think you'll be pleased with the results.
Same thing I'm going to be doing in mine!!!! Looks awesome!!!!! I'm thinking of just glassing the whole corner and cavity ,then making a mounting ring and stretching fleece overer it to give it a flowing shape.I'm waiting for all the parts to get here and the weather to get a lil warmer so I can get started.Awesome Job!!!!!!!

Hmm, ive heard BAD things about Peal n Seal on interiors, especially in hot weather. I tried to look up a thermal rating on it, but googlng it just found treads here and there about it. Of the threads I did read, it had been mentioned that some people had a sticky, gooey mess after a few months in particularly hot climates, such as Texas. After reading a couple of threads on that, I shyed away from using it. Damplifier was a good choice comming in around 2.50/sq foot until recently when they doubled their prices tring to sell the stuff retail. So im probably investing in eDead, from Elementad Designs, being that it comes in at 70 mills (not REALLY thick) but cheap enough to do 2 passes. And I got a lot of personal recommendations from people who actually compete in car audio. So I did try to do a lot of research before I just jumped up and bought some sound deadening material. Of course, we all know Dynamat is a joke at the price they're asking for it. Sorry if this is a bit long, but I just spent the last 4 hours researching sound deadening material.

snoopdan
All the stories I've heard about Peel & Seal problems seemed to stem from people trying to sell other sound deadening materials... believe me, I looked into it before spending hours applying it to my Corvette!
Besides, after I had stripped out the interior, I drove around for about a week with a "test" piece of Peel & Seal on the vertical surface of the tunnel brace right next to the exhaust. This part of the car got too hot to touch while driving around, and even at this temp, the P&S was solid, no sagging, dripping, or any other adverse effects. After seeing this with my own eyes, I went ahead and did the rest of the car. After all, this stuff is DESIGNED to sit out in the sun underneath roofing shingles, you can't tell me the people who created this stuff didn't have temperature extremes in mind when they designed it...
However, that being said, I still wouldn't put this stuff on any ceiling sections where it had to fight gravity. I have heard of it falling when people used it on the inside of thier trunk lids and whatnot (not that our cars have trunk lids )
your results may vary, not available in Rhode Island, etc etc...
man that lloks great I was wondering if you could put subs in the side that that I love it I wish I could do that to mine.
Awesome.
