Default Need Help to Decide???

Hello

I have been reading alot of the post about different amps and subs and have decided that I have to have one for my 04 Z06.

I don't want to replace the stock speakers and HU at this time, I just want to add more bass. I thinking of going with 2 10's or 1 12". My concern of a box is I have a partion behind the seat between the trunk and the cab of the car. If I use the subthumb box will I loose any of the thumb. Or my other choice was to build a box into the partion and have the 2 10's firing into the cab.

The subs I am looking at are

a) JL Audio 10v6
b) Kicker S10L7

What I am looking at is one of three amps:

a) JL Audio 500.1

b) Kicker KX600.1

c) Alpine MRD M1005

Please share your ideas and thoughts on this, as I plan on getting something here in the next week.

Thanks

Personally, I think its a bad idea. Adding a good quality sub and amp to a crap head unit and crap speakers is not going to give you better sound. Take the same money and install a mid level HU a 2 channel amp and a mid level set of component speakers.

with the sub though the system will sound louder at a given volume so you can listen to it at lower volumes and not have as much distortion. If you are content with the way that the bose system sounds, go for it.

oh your questions...

I was toying with the idea of building a box into my partition too but i ended up building the amp rack into it instead. I would stick with one 12 (12w6) as the bass from that will be plenty in that car. for the amp, personaly I'd go with the jl 500.1 amp too

LISTEN TO THE MAN! He's wanting some bass. I will personally stand up for all the bassheads ... and.....there is absolutly nothing wrong with upgrading in stages. I did exactly that with my 92 Vert, I left the stock bose in, added an old school "The Hott Setup" 500 watt mono amp and bought a JBL 8" tube subwoofer. (those little guys are pretty good, definately better than the SAS 8's) .... a couple of weeks after that I put in a Alpine CD HU and 10 disc changer, then after that, bought some JBL componants for the kickpanels, then bought a couple of Alpine tweeters off of ebay for 20 bucks ... Sh!t rocked. But the point of telling this babble, is that I did it in little stages. First, the most dramatic part first - Bass. It IS the most fun move to do first, IMO.

So Vicous, rock on man. Nothing wrong with doing what you want.

I'd place my vote on JL Audio

JL is good stuff... I added a 10" Alpine and amp to my coupe and it's plenty of bass for me. Not sure about the Z06 configuration though. I kept my head unit and factory speakers and the sound is so much better. Go for it and if it's still not good enough you can change other items out later.

I went to the local Car Toys today and they were trying to steer me towards MTX 8500 or 9500. Any comments on these. The guy at Car Toys compares the 8500 to the JL12w6 and the 9500 to the JL12w7.

So many subs so little time

Those two are apples and oranges bro. With the JL leaning to SQ and the MTX to SPL. Just depends on what you value more.

I'm all for working in stages too. I think HU should be first is all. Cuz you will need to buy an adapter to run the amps for the meantime. But to answer your questions, I'd go with the JL10w6v2 and the Alpine amp no questions about it.

i'd go with one 12. takes up less space, less expensive to power and will give you plenty of bass in such a small area.

I just finished installing a 12" JLw6v2 in my C5 vert with the 500/1 JL amp and that thing pounds! I am very happy with the setup.
