Which Oil for C6Z LS7 Motor?
Keeping in mind the wide varience in ambient starting temperatures, large oprating delta (many owners struggle to get oil up t0 150* while others see more than 260* at HPDE events), the length of time to get to operating temperature due to the different MY oiling capacity/design, and oil's potential role in LS7 motor failures:
Do you feel that there are any oils on the market which may serve us better than the factory fill Mobil1 5w30 ?

I've been using Pennzoil Platinum or Castrol Edge here for the last 5-6 years (switched back when I had just bought my C6/Z06). I'm sure Mobil 1 is fine, but after some research, I found for $ and without getting in the boutique oils, it really is the best you can buy off the shelf locally. Curious to see what Tadge thinks here.

This past summer I was at Laguna Seca and there were some Corvette engineers there along with the Mobil 1 guy and even Ron Fellows!
Anyway the Mobil 1 fellow said GM recommends Mobil 15W-50 for track duty.

I use Amsoil Signature 100% synthetic at the recommended weight, of I think 5w-20. Here's a view of my old IROC-Z L98 with over 150K miles. I'm hoping my current engine will look as good with the same mileage.
Sent to me by the new owner. Was very pleased to see how clean it was. I used Amsoil full synthetic 10w-40 for over 25 years.

Sorry Howie, missed this first time around.
For the future, and given that this doesn't meet the Owner's Manual requirements, I'd consider this:
AMSOIL Z-ROD 10w30 Synthetic Motor Oil (Product Code ZRTQT)
(zinc – 1440 ppm, phosphorus 1320 ppm)
This oil has much more ZDDP than allowed by current API SN and dexos1 specs (limted to 800 ppm phosphorus), sits very high in the 30 grade band, and has enough detergent/dispersant for ~3k mile (or one year whichever first) oil change intervals. It is very similar to AMSOIL's Dominator Racing 10w30 I use in my modded C5 Z06 at the track (410 RWHP). I change my racing oil at about 500 mile track intervals, but for a dual use car the Z-ROD is a good compromise. Note that my personal thumbrule for a 30 grade is ~260F. Over that and I'd go to a 40 grade. In my car at the track which has a DRM sourced Ron Davis radiator and dedicated external oil cooler my oil temps with the Dominator 10w30 typically run 245-255F, right at the top of where I am comfortable with the 30 grade. We tore my engine down this winter after last season's build from stock to forged pistons, rods, etc after my switch from SCCA T2 (stock LS6 restricted) to NASA ST2 (a power to weight class, 8 lb per hp). Engine looked very clean and no unexpected wear in the bearings - we are reusing them and putting the engine back together now.
More than happy to get AMSOIL products for forum members at dealer wholesale pricing, about 25% below retail, via the AMSOIL Preferred Customer Program. Drop me a PM if interested.

Unfortunately, I may be one of the unfortunates who's head's valve guides were improperly machined at the factory. I'm hoping and praying using Amsoil might prolong or even prevent the valve stems from wearing through. When the new owner starting taking apart the IROC's engine, he said everything looked practically new. So I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed. I'm also going to start changing the oil earlier than recommended.
