It's part of the new "supporting member" system.

I knew they had IPO in mind due to their actions the last few months, however, I hadn't anticipated they would file so quickly. Nice move.

That's funny
Hmmm wonder if they are going replace donations from supporting members to a share or two of stock?
Wake up dreamer!
Never did see a response to someone mention about the servers crashing and the forum being down for a day or so, post purchase by IB. Wonder if that is the level of up/down time we should expect now?

http://domainnamewire.com/2007/07/20...-for-100m-ipo/ The second part is what will screw over "the little guy" the most, IMHO.
The sad part: The mod's who spend their FREE time here making sure there is order on this site, and they do so with no compensation. It's one thing to give your free time to a "worthy" cause, but to do so for a money making Corporation, is a different story. In fact, it's the members here that make this forum what it is (like most other's). Without us, it has no value.

Looks like the IB IPO was announced just under an hour ago. Probably has something to do with the timing of the announcement.

A quote from the media release (The Internet media company, which builds, acquires and enhances branded Web sites).
Sounds like change to me.
Bottom line is they are in business to make money.
So either Troy WAS making good money from this site or they are going to make it profitable or it will die.
My guess is Supporting tuners and vendors will see a rate increase as well as more adverts on the site.

Anyone gonna bite on this IPO? I do not see any long term sustainability because they are going to burn out their site eyeball base with "cross marketing on a common platform", whatever the F- that turns out to be....
I can see Jelsoft being a good purchase, though.

Actually, I tried unsuccessfully to get a good position on a list. I couldn't even utilize my position here to leverage one.

Well obviously things will change now. Buying the Vbulletin software guarantees that. Hopefully they are not stretching themselves too thin, otherwise there are quite a few websites besides corvetteforum that will not exist one day. Too many eggs in one basket. Either it will flourish or it will die taking down some real good sites (communities).
The thought of all the possible (probable) ads makes me think this site will loose traffic. Seen it happen before, but hope it doesn't this time.

The big quesiton - is IB going to be the next YouTube?
I am sure the backers hope so - and even if it isn't in the end, once they announce their symbol, those of us now "in the know" can jump on the IB bandwagon - who knows, maybe be it will be a quick ride to a new Blue Devil for a bunch of us

Those figures are in thousands. They didn't buy all of these sites for $35,000.
