Default Oil pressure gauge problems

82 model had mechanical oil pressure gauge in it when I bought it. Held great oil pressure. Factory gauge was sitting at 40psi all the time not even hooked up. Bought new sending unit to hook up factory gauge but fact. gauge is now sitting on 0. Do these gauges go bad or is there something in between causing me not to get a reading. Thanks alot.

A simple check to see if the guage is good. With the ignition on, pull the wire off. Check the reading. Then, Ground the wire and check the reading. There should be a full deflection. You may have gotten the wrong sending unit. You need one for a guage and not a idiot light.
