Smell like Exhaust after driving???
Whenever I get done cruzin I always end up smelling like exhaust, all most as bad as you do after snowmobiling. I have new O ring gaskets and manifold gaskets so I don't think there's any leaks. I always cruz with the windows down too. Does anyone else seem to have this happen?

My car used to make me smell like I'd just crawled out of the muffler, but after sealing the firewall, installing new manifold gaskets, and fixing all the tiny exhaust leaks, the smells went away.

I have wondered about this before too. I dont usually mind it when it's just me but, I often take the vette out on dates and out with friends. My passengers often mention the smell. The time it bothered me most is when I drove it to my senior prom and we were all dressed up and were lookin  , but we smelled like exhuast :( .
I wonder if the intsallation of 2 high flow cats would correct the problem without compromising too much of the original sound and nonoriginal performance.

I know that mine has air leaks all around :reddevil :mad because when I drive it on a cold night the air whistles thru it like a hurricane!
But when I have no exhaust/header/collector leaks it is a whole lot better. :steering:

Paul, it would be a lot cheaper for you to do it yourself, than to fly me out to fix it. :D
Put a light inside the car with it on jack stands. Turn the light on, and turn the garage lights out, crawl under the car and start looking for light. If you see light, plug the hole with black 3M Electical Putty. You should be able to find it at Home Depot, Lowe's or some place like that.
Do this to both sides of the car. You'll get most of the leaks if you do this.
It only took me about an hour to do both side of the car, and 90% of my leaks dissapeared.
This won't take care of leaks coming in from the ventilation system, but they usually don't let fumes into the car.

Re: Smell like Exhaust after driving??? (Gotta Fix my '76)
I've got 4" side pipes and the exhaust smell is almost inevitable. It's great when my wife drives the car though, the smell, um. . .arouses me. :yesnod:

My 70 does it. But I have sidepipes which doesn`t help. I did lean it out some and quite a bit of the smell disappeared.

I don't know what's worse, the smell, or hearing my wife scream, yet again "You Stink!" I'm going to try the suggestion above, and see if this helps. Thanks for the advice!

Exhaust smell? Thats redneck eau-de-toilet aint it?
Add me to the list of stinkers too. What I found on my car was unburned fuel at idle when I first start it up. I always stand away from the car till its warmed up a little and that seems to help some. But, with side pipes and the top down the only cure is to go fast!

I never gave it much thaught till I read this post. Funny, when I walked in the kitchen my wife said I smelled like a gas station the same day I read it.

Re: Smell like Exhaust after driving??? (The Money Pit)
Two things come to mind. First is leaks and second is too lean/rich a fuel mixture.
If the mix is too lean, you tend to get more hydrocarbons released. That is the heavy exhaust smell that hangs in the air and on your clothes. If you smell like 'gas vapors', the mix is too rich.
Adjusting the mixture eliminated all smell from the car. The wife even had to ask if I drove the car last week and she walked into the gargae 5 minutes after I returned.
