Who has the Fastest C1-C5 Corvette?
WHo has the fastest Corvette to run the 1/4 mile(ET also MPH), real Corvettes, street legal, no fake Drag Cars with Corvette bodies, real Corvettes. I'd just want to know who can get down to the end of the strip the quickest. ;) :chevy

We have Keith Brownlee who runs our challenge here in Jersey that can run 9.6s in his street legal C4.

There is a guy that frequent Beaver Springs Raceway, here in PA that has a street legal 67 vette that runs over 200 MPH in the 1/4! He has an engine shop in the area and I guess that is his advertisment tool, it works. I will try to find his name on there site the information.
Its a sweet looking car. Can you imagine the look on a cops face if you were at a light next to him and nailed it from a dead stop
Here is a pic of the car I found on their site. I knew there had to be one...
If I remember correctly he was in the low 7's last I saw him...

I think this Z06 might be a contender http://www.corvettemagazine.com/2001.../z07/z07-1.asp
SW has it dipping down into the 9.4's now I believe...drives very nicely on the street as well.

I thought it said 9.99's not 9.4's. Maybe you saw it at a different place, would you tell me where you found that on the website.

It isn't on that web site. He ran a 9.6 a few weeks later and is now down to a 9.4 I believe.
That is one deceptive Z06....

My Vette isn't the quickest here, but it's probably in the running. It's a real street driver and gets over 20 mpg (better than my Astro Van). Runs consistent 9.7's @ 142 mph and it's quiet. I can drive to the track and pull those times with regular tires up front (275/40/17) and in full street trim, just with some good fuel.
A lot of people try to make a fast street car but end up with a slow race car.

Turbo.. Not only your call name but your comment intrigued me. Can you expound on how the "fast street car becomes a slow race car concept occurs??" Why do you suppose that is? I tend to believe it happens to alot of us beginners.. :)

Well, I found as you keep adding mods to the car, there is a point where it's not as enjoyable to drive around. This is usually done to go faster to keep up with the buds over a period of time.
A 9 or 10 second street car is fast and is on the edge, but it becomes a pain to drive because the exhaust is too loud, or the skinnys up front takes the handling away and the cops keep pulling you over because it looks the part. I've watched friends lose interest in just driving around because the car becomes a pain in the butt and is only really good for the track.
Then you have a high 9 or 10-second racecar is not very fast when you try to compete. It's at this point where you sell the car or spend big bucks to make it compete at the track and buy an other street car that you promise to yourself "I won't over do it this time".
My comment was just an observation of what I've done in the past and seen happen around me. Maybe I should have had an other beer instead.

Re: Who has the Fastest C1-C5 Corvette? (TurboVette)
I think that would mean to-Have a fast Drag street Legal Car, with Drag slicks and skinny tires up front and thats your thrill machine. Then you have car more like luxury, better ride quality, like a cadillac or something, OR you get a little slower one like a TransAm or a Mustank and drive that around for regular driving. Then all you do is take your street monster out on the weekends, or whenever you have a bad day and you just feel like drivin your Drag vette for fun and thrills, or take it to the track. This way you wont have to deal with the constant headache of the car, sitting comfort and all those types of things you would incounter when if you would drive that thing every day. Maybe like that?
I get what you mean TurboVette you would just get tired of it because you always get the same thrust you always get and would think nothing of it when you always experince that pull or thrust that your used to it and really cant get a ruch out of it anymore.

Re: Who has the Fastest C1-C5 Corvette? (TurboVette)
Turbo.. I hope you didnt mis-interpret my post...I wasn't trying to be condescending in any way.. I agree with your statement about fast street cars that are slow track cars.. My train of thought was that for me.. a relatively new guy to building higher performance was that some of the "mods" that seem to make sense for the street do not necessarily seem to facilitate quicker ET's at the strip.. For example,, for the moment I have a mildly modded L98 with a 6 speed.. I went with 373's out back and although it sems to be more "fun" on the street. without the ability to rev the thing higher I think it basically hurt at the track. I also get the those same feelings sometimes about not drivin the car as much because it's original intention for me was and still is to build a "hot rod" so it is loud and at times not the most pleasant thing to drive. Had it of been an un moddded automatic it may have had more daily driver qualities to it. And by the way.. I think a 9.** or a 10.** anything is fast as heck! :) I would really like to learn to build a 10.** F/I motor that is very streetable,,with A/C and so on... Obviously it can be done.

Re: Who has the Fastest C1-C5 Corvette? (Light84vette)
Light... I think if I were really gonna do the 'racin" thing regularily I probably would have made a different choice of vette ( automatic,, coupe,, LT-1) as a daily driver and bought a dragster to race. From my limited experience with bracket racing,,it's a pretty tuff road to really compete with a daily driver at any level, especially if 9's or even below is the goal...aannndd I would say atleast 80 % of the time the dragsters were beatin the "door" cars at the track. They are lighter and more consistent and dont seem to take as much 'finesse' to get em to go real fast.. so the two car thing seems to have some merit to me.... Just my .02
