Inverting Sub question

Inverting Sub question
Howdy all:
I am going to undertake a project over the winter months that will involve alot of work on a new amp rack setup and a new sub enclosure design. Going to go radical with it :D
I am wondering what benefit, if any, there might be in inverting the sub? I have been giving it some serious thoughts and have decided on the JL Audio 500/1 and the JL Audio 12W6v2. I will put the other JL's that I have now into my 98 beetle. I get to design a setup for that as well...woot!!! :)
Just curious as to what I need to know about the differences between mounting the sub conventionally or inverted.
Thanks,

Asthetics mainly. As well as the exposed wires for appearance. No real difference in performance, unless your doing a compound loaded enclosure with 2 speakers. Oh there is a slight gain of .1 or.2 cubic feet of chamber volume.

If you are doing it with just a single sub, then you will mainly just be gaining air space in the enclosure, you would actually screw up your bass sound unless you ported correctly and even then you wouldn't gain any extra bass. A setup like you are describing, for best results, needs to work with a series of subs both inverted and non-inverted.

Remember to reverse polarity. My personal experience with my own setup and one of my good friends is that you can't really tell. I've talked to one person who thought it his was louder. It is good however if you have a 35lb Audiobahn with a massive chrome magnent that must be shown off. :D
