Default Turtle Wax Finish 2001 - What a disaster!!

My Black 96 has always had Maquier products, most recently Gold Class wax and clear coat prep & some Quick Detailer. Don't ask why but I decided to try Turtle Wax's Finish 2001. All I got for my efforts were streaks and more streaks that just would not come off, so like a dummy I tried a second and even partial third coat, it just got worse! What to do??? I have gone over it with Quick Detailer which didn't help. I don't understand what happened, you can't mix products??

:p:

Wash your car with dawn... if the streaks are from the wax, dawn will kill it because wax has no endurance...

Do the streaks look "holographic?"

Thanks for the reminder about Dawn. But I just looked at the label and Finish 2001 is not wax, it is a "high-tech polymer". The do look a little holographic. Will Dawn work on the polymer??

if they are "holographic" they are probably swirl makrs (scratches in clear coat) 3 or 4 coats of Zaino Z5 will clear them right up. You can also use 3m 39009 compound to remove swirl marks, but it is abrasive.

Polymer should come off with Dawn.

Yep. A HEAVY concentrate of dawn. Then put on one thin coat of something until you get Zaino.

If you get streaks from wax, mist a little water on the paint and buff with a dry towel.

I don't think they are swirl marks. Looked sort of like I had washed car with soapy water and let it dry without rinsing. I wasn't able to wash it and tomorrow I am going to the Roscoe Village Show ( see Great Lakes Forum) and will just have to put up with the embarassment of a pretty bad looking car. Monday I hope to wash it and get a coat of probably Maguiers on it, and then in the long run it is time to try Zaino.

With meguiars, DAMPEN the applicator pad, and use the wax SPARINGLY. Let it fully dry, or it will smear as you take it off. Have a spray bottle with water ready for final polishing.

Then get some ZAINO!

"high-tech polymer.....no rubbing or buffing....need only to use every 12 months...........provides a rich, deep-gloss shine....."

I was a sucker for some great marketing phrases on the packaging.......even the name was attractive, mostly looking for little more durabilaty along with a great shine...

Something that I have not seen mentioned is what was on the finish when you applied the Turtle Wax Product? Anything? Did you completely strip the finish?

I am also going to disagree with the statement about Dawn removing a polymer...it doesn't. Both Zaino and Klasse are polymers and are uneffected as far as removal with Dawn detergent. Dawn WILL remove a wax. In order to remove a polymer, you can use either Isopropyl Alcohol or a quality paint cleaner such as Pinnacle Paintwork Cleansing Lotion.

That particular TW product could be a hybrid (a combination polymer/wax) as well. If it were my car, I'd use a quality paint cleaner to remove the Turtle Wax product from the finish.

Do yourself a favor in the future, stay away from Turtle Wax...that stuff is garbage. :(

Default Finish 2001

Hey Guys,
I have used Finish 2001 since 1990. It was back then, the best car wax around!! It even would take out swirl marks or scratches out of the paint, if not too deep,no lie!!
Well, Turtle wax bought them out. I swear once bought out,it is not as good, but it still rocks!!
I use Meguiar's too. I even took there all day Saturday class in Irvine.
They make great products, but I still rather Finish 2001. I like the liquid best, cause it does not get gooped up in the finders or in creases like the wax will.
I have gotten streaks before too. I usually put on a few coasts. I think the paint is sucking it up,cause u have probably not waxed your car in a while.
Meguiar's told me,NEVER use any dish washing soap on your car,it strips the paint and wax off!! Most people do not know this. In the old days, they would do this, not knowing its bad!!
Use a good microfiber towel to wipe it off when it drys. Too much crap on the towel causes it to streak. Use clean towels to take the dried residue off!!
I use to detail cars, and all I ever used was Finish 2001,its getting harder to find. I know ACE Hardware sells it. All my customers were amazed, their car looked new. It is a polisher/Wax actually. It will last good for about 6 washes, then it wears out,the bottle says one year, but that is crap!!
Good luck, I hope this helps u guys out ?

Ace Hardware told me , its a special order now ??
Looks like I might be going back to Meguiar's polymer waxes!!
Turtle Wax, Ice works pretty well too
I still prefer Finish 2001.
