Default C4 rear-end in a C3???

Ive got a stroker putting out about 460 hp in my 81 and i finding out that I am twisting rear half shafts. So ive hear that the c4 rearends are built strong and have better geomitries, to take more of the twisty stuff, is this true? And secondly has anyone ever swapped the rearend out of a C3 for a C4 rearend? Can this be done easily...bolt up? or do other mods need to be done first?
Thanks for all suggestions and answers!

Seems like people spend some mucho $ to upgrade the susp/drive train on our c-3s. Wonder if it would be cheaper, or even possible, to drop a c-3 body on a c-4 frame. Of course you could get really nutting and drop it on a c-5 frame. The looks of a c-3 with all the tech of a c-5. That would be bitchin' dude.

Where is 'the dude'? Haven't seen a post in a while from him.

Well now, Febre,

That would be the altimate now wouldent it! My friends and I have been talking abou that since the C5 came out and demonstated there stiffness, and lightness, due to the frame hydroforming techniques. Althought the C5s are wider cars, so youd have to do some fiberglass work to get a C3 frame on a C5. but you'dd have the best of all worlds!!! Looks and preformence!

Iv'e alwasy said that if Chevrolet would build a C5 corvette with a 63 split window body and make like 5,000 of em, as like a special eddition or somthing, they could sell them for $200K each or more, and people would by them!

Also Lasse, I couldent get that link you pasted to work???

That sounds like an aftermarket money maker to me. Now where did I bury that half million dollar mason jar for great money making ideas.

Since the 80 to 82 cars attached the diff to the frame the same way (ears on frame instead of bolt up design) as 84 and up, I have wondered the same thing. If the pickup ears are in the same place and the pinon lines up, the only issue should be a new mount for the front of the diff., since ours uses a front mount and 84 and up use a torque tube.

It would be nice to swap it out since the 84 and up also has the mounting point for toe links. If you went with the 84 and up bearing carrier you also could use 16/17 inch wheels and bigger brakes. You would need to weld or bolt to mounts to the frame for the trailing are links.

http://www.carcreationsinc.com/index.html - The 63-67' kit should fit the 68-79' cars. Check it out!

Yeah, having a Z06 chassis dressed as a c3, yeah right  that would be like a wolf in a sheeps skin :yesnod:
It would be fun to smoke all those high teck ricers with supras and xhit like that.
Well as my CO (USMC) used to say: every thing is possible, the impossible only takes a bit longer!

Maybe Twinnie will chime in. I think he was doing something like this, or I may be wrong. Maybe something on the crossfire forum about it, but I haven't been allowed there for about a year, I think, so can't check.
