seemingly low oil pressure on a 2002 C5
i have a new 2002 C5,which replaces my 99 C5. The 2002 has low oil pressure when at hot idlecompared to my 99. At warm/hot idle i am only showing 20-23 psi of oil pressure, is this normal, my 99 under the same conditions would read 30 psi, Has GM modified the oiling system since 1999, or do I have a low pressure condition, thanks for all replies.

Here is the fix. Change the oil and the pressure will rise. It will work. I've seen it on many cars, including my own. Do not take it to the dealer for this problem as they will have no clue.

That's the same problem when I had my 99 A4, but now that I have a 2002 M6 the pressure runs around 40 Psi @ running temp.

That seems pretty low...try changing the oil, but if that doesn't work better take it to the dealer quick!

Re: seemingly low oil pressure on a 2002 C5 (cares)
Here's what mine runs: 36 PSI @ idle and 48 PSI @ 2000 RPM, water temp.-196, oil temp.-199. This is with 400 miles and the original oil. I have been keeping track because I want to see the difference when I change the oil to 10W-30 mobil1 and the UPF-44 filter. I will change the oil at 500 miles. Unfortunately the weather sucks so that might be a while longer.

I read your post so I double checked mine on the way home.
2000 Coupe w/17K miles & 4 prior oil changes.
40psi @ speed
25psi @ idle

Re: seemingly low oil pressure on a 2002 C5 (Patches)
FWIW, I looked in the 1999 C5 shop manual and found the following info:
Oil Pressure (Minimum --- Hot)
6 psi @ 1,000 RPM
18 psi @ 2,000 RPM
24 psi @ 4,000 RPM
I hope this helps

Also put 10/30 Mobil 1 in it instead of 5/30.

My oil pressure was low in my 2001 coupe at first as well. Like the others have said, it went up after my first oil change, using the UPF44 filter. I don't know if it was the filter or what, because this is the only filter I have used. There is a wide range of normal operating pressures, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
