Default The coolest thing ever.

My son's high school prom was Thursday, his girls was Friday (different schools). TWaldo lives a short distance away, we met on the forum, I answered a few threads he posted, and had lunch once. At lunch conversation turned to our cars. I told him I was trying to finish my car to let my son take it to prom. Tom called after a couple months and asked if it was done. I told him "no, finances would not allow it". Tom said "I would like your son to take my car to prom". I was floored. He offered to let my son who he never met, use his fully restored Red 71, 4 speed corvette for his prom. I picked it up Wed after work and drove it home. My son took it to school Thursday, Prom Thursday night, I drove it home then he took it to prom Fri night and I returned it after a thorough cleaning and a full tank on Saturday. this is one of the nicest things I have ever heard of anyone doing. A few pics of the car and the kids. My son had the coolest car at prom and the best story as well.

Very cool. Either he is very trusting or knows your net worth, either way he is a better man than me. Very cool TWaldo!

Very cool story. And one that your son will look back on with fondness. I salute the gentleman that provided his car for your sons big day. Obviously a very trusting and generous individual.
Great looking Vette BTW.

Unnnnnnnnbelievable!

What a guy!

I hope you took lots of pics for your son to put in the back of his yearbook!

(That would be the equivalent of my friend letting me take my wife to our anniversary dinner in his fully restored 1934 Plymouth)

What an amazing gesture. Your son, and his date, will remember that forever. My grand kids don't graduate for another 9 years so I should have mine done by then.........

Great story and it's always been great people on this forum. My oldest son had my 75 out at his first prom last night. Suppose I better get out and make sure it's still in one piece!

Very Cool. I have a hard time letting my son drive mine. Your son will remember that fondly forever.

I know this is not Tech and Performance but I hope the mods leave this alone as this is the forum I always post on. It is an absolutely beautiful car.

Default ...Passing it forward...

When I was 18 years old, I had a few modded cars...that were respectably fast in the early '70's, but I never had $$$ for paint...just speed. A good (5 years older) friend had a Roadrunner 440 - 6 pack that I envied, since it "looked" awesome and ran great. He knew I wasn't (nor the girls) thrilled with my car for "prom" purposes, so he surprised me with the keys to his car and a cooler full of beer in the trunk. I was in shock. Don't believe we made it to the prom. Too much fun in the car...
Fast forward to 2014...meeting 63Mako and hearing his story how his car was not going to be ready for his sons senior prom....well memories flooded back from my experience. Gotta be honest ...a cooler full of beer was never gonna happen this time around.
My only request of 63Mako's son is to ...."pass it forward" when the opportunity comes....

people who make kind gestures such as this assure that the car hobby will continue to the next generation. some of the kids today may have never seen a vintage corvette up close and gave it any thought. one kid at a prom will see that car and be inspired to have his own vintage car. just the sound alone compared to a new car is intoxicating. thank you for being a good corvette ambassador
