As strange looking as they are, these things really are fast as hell. I launched pretty much perfectly, controlled tire spin, perfect shift into 2nd (I'm pretty darn fast), and he was already gone. I was screaming, too. We pulled over into a QuikTrip to chat for a bit and have an iced tea. He was a pretty decent guy. Not extremely knowledgeable about cars, but as much an enthusiast as you or I. He plans some mods, but claims it is currently showroom stock.

Next time I'll bring a bigger gun.

Those GT-R's are definitely tough to hang with. They have the AWD that launches them like a rocket and then they keep on pulling. You gave it a shot and like you said you need a bigger gun.

At Test n Tune night I watched GT-Rs turn in 11 second runs, they are quick.

AWD with launch control, your going to get owned every time out of the hole, even if you did have launch control on your rear wheel drive vet.

But the bigger question, was it like a few car lengths, or you looking up and asking " Where did he go"?

GTR are fast as hell and honestly they could probably run circles around me I don't even care they are uglier than they are fast, looks like a toilet on wheels.

GTR's are fast no question about it, but what else do they offer over Corvettes. Corvettes have the looks, sound, more upgrades and custom items than you can shake a stick at and made in USA! I'll take my GS over a GTR any day of the week. If I took the difference in what a GTR cost over my GS and put it into performance items i'd have a fire breathing monster that the GTR would have to think twice about lining up against! As far as looks go only a few would even give a GTR a second look.

What does go hand in hand with a GT-R is the no comprise Technology that Nissan put into the car to not only make it straight line fast, including out of the hole, but circuit track fast as well (same with Toyota and the LFA).

Take a Vet and throw a long enough high speed track and ton's more horsepower in the car, and you can turn in faster times (from a dead stop starts) than a GT-R, but pound per pound, with both cars at stock amount's of horsepower, the vet does not stand a chance.

Lets not kid ourselves, in the world of super car technology, even the C-7 Vet is nothing more than a want-a-be hillbilly assless chaps wearing buck tooth red headed step child showing up with a pocket knife for a gun fight.

Yes, the vet is fast, both strip and circuit track fast, when compared to American muscle cars (which is not saying much), but when talking world super cars, not only are the materials used to make the vet decades old, but the technology used to build it as well.

Don't get me wrong, I love vets since that are very inexpensive for entry level super cars, as well as very inexpensive come service times as well, but as a true world super car, they are really not up to snuff.

At 6 litters, the standards right now for any other world super car manufacturer would be well above 600hp naturally aspirated.
For as small as the car is, is a pig for weight at over 3K lbs.
Drive line quickness, in the day and age of twin clutch sequential transmissions, the AT-6 is a joke, not to mention manual shift trans that are barbaric compare to even 10 year old manual transmission designs from other country super car competitors that not only shift a lot smoother, but sync better as well.
And the list of faults go on and and on.

Simply put, if you need to talk down another type of car type to justify your ownership of a vet, then the joke is on you. Instead as a vet owner, know that for the money you spent on a vet, you got a very good bargain on owning a entry level American super car class vehicle instead.

What separates the Corvette from the GT-R, LFA, Porsche, Aston, Ferrari, etc. is the technology that lets you use all the car has to give.

Corvettes are great fun and offer a lot for the money but they are falling behind as the technology gap widens.

Yes, I know, for the price, etc. etc. but honestly, 15 years ago they were a lot closer in performance to the big time supercars than they are today. Sure, a great driver can turn a competitive lap time with a Z06 but the average guy can go faster more comfortably in lots of other cars. But again, not for Corvette money.

My Corvette goes plenty fast, for me, but I'm under no delusion that its a true "supercar." No matter what the magazines say.

This is really about the eternal question: How much is enough? My first car was a 65 Mustang that I got from my Dad in the summer of 1967. It was a great car for an 18 year old. I learned a lot modding that car but the biggest thing I learned, and the hardest to accept, was that there always was someone faster than me no matter what I did to my car. There was always someone with more money or someone who didn't care how horrible their car was to drive and so there was always someone faster.

The Corvette is a great car for the price and on an absolute basis. The reason it is what it is has more to do with it's intended use than a lack of technology. The Porsche 911 gives away a significant performance advantages to retain its rear engine design, a design that provides significant advantages in interior room and a unique driving experience. The Corvette gives away significant performance advantages to retain its front engined design, a design that provides significant advantages in interior room and a unique driving experience. If you don't care about actually living with or paying for a car just buy the latest ultimate mid engine supercar, but be quick because the next latest ultimate whatever is just around the corner. There are no real winners, it's like betting against the house in Vegas.

Don't fall into the trap of downplaying the LS/LT series engines because of their seemingly modest output for their displacement, they are low in weight, have a low CG, compact size, easy packaging, high torque, low maintenance costs, are very reliable and yield excellent fuel efficiency.

That GTR guy knows that there are many cars faster than he, and if you actually are the fastest you probably won't be by next month.

Well it was all in good fun. It's not often a GT-R pulls up next to you at a stoplight, so I had to do it just so say I did it.

Stock they are beatable. Modified, you better be packing. I'll show you video of me against my friend when all he had was a mid pipe (basically stock older model year 2009) and then after he dropped some bolt-ons to make 650awhp (10.3 @ 137).

For a "track car" any car can be made fast, Vette, GT-R, etc. but if you're driving the car around town, once you get over 550hp you're really just traction limited and then something like an Evo/GTR/etc. is your better option it'll hook on the street better than anything else that's RWD.

Both runs from a roll to eliminate traction being a factor in the outcome and just seeing raw power who's got more. My C6 runs 11.7 @ 121.7mph. Original poster, is this kind of how your runs went down?
