Default How much money will I lose if I buy a Z51 vs waiting for a ZO6?

I'm going to put a deposit down on a ZO6 with ZO7 option, but I'm guessing with the backlog I may not get one until 2016

Plus I'm NOT going to pay over MSRP so I will wait it out.

In addition, I really want different colors for my ZO6 then what I see them offering at the moment. So far, I'm really not head over heals with any of the colors, although I do like the blue.

I also don't want to buy the 1st model year. I'm guessing the 2016 will have a few more upgrades and maybe a few ponies more.

I really don't want to wait up to 24 month to get into a C7.

I'm thinking about getting a C7/Z51 and adding a Supercharger, approx a $7k increase in price (stock HP won't cut it for me).

Any idea how much money I would lose when I go to sell my C7?

Thanks

P.S. My other option was to buy a used Z06 and hopefully lessen the depreciation factor. But I really want the C7

They all depreciate. There's not enough history yet on C7s for sale or trade to make a guess about how much or how fast they depreciate.

If you really want a C7 as you say you do, buy one and quit worrying about what may or may not happen in the future.

a likely loss of 25%--35% plus the cost of your modifications...YMMV !

I know they all depreciate.

But I won't have the C7 ZO6 for 18-24 months. In the interim I wanted to buy a New C7/Z51 and add a supercharger.

If I lost $20k I'll probably go for it. But more than 25k and I need to rethink this.

Once I get the C7 ZO6 I plan to keep it for many years. I could care less what happens in regards to depreciation. I'll probably just give it to my son.

Estimates regarding depreciation losses on a aftermarket supercharged Z51 will vary widely. Antidotal figures will be all over the place.

If you want more financial predictability, I suggest something like a factory modified to supercharger setup like offered by Lingenfelter. Will have a warranty so you can find someone to short term lease it to you. Since your profile says you're an entrepreneur, a lease should work well for tax reasons. And the time line works well with the plans you spoke of.

you will lose less than 20k. even less if you sell it for retail rather than taking the trade in price.

I'd say you'd lose less than $20k if you don't count the supercharger, which is a bit of a wild card for resale value. It won't be worth near the $7k you paid for it and it might even scare away some potential buyers.

ZO6?

I can build out my Z51 for more power for less $$

I can replace body panels, wheels and tires for less $$

I can upgrade suspension for less $$

Bah....

Highly unlikely. Hell, Calloway wants $22k for a supercharger with a warranty and some tack on cosmetics.

I'm getting the Z for sure. It's just a matter if I'm willing to go without a Vette until then.

I sold my Vette and have nothing but a boring daily driver.

I can't believe there is a one year lag from the intro at the auto show to the first delivery. Seems like forever.

another solution: you can by a used 2005--2007 C6 now for the right price, drive it for 18+ months,
and likely not lose much money when you trade it/sell it to get the C7 Z06...

Not so sure about that. The 2015 Z has a Supercharger, and according to Chevy the "minimum HP will be 625". From what I can see the Z will have an Eaton supercharger which should produce some nice power.

Plus I'm sure it will be de-tuned so we can crank up the power once the warranty is exhausted. I plan to keep the car for a long time unless some new radical Vette comes out that makes me want one.

The Z has so many more features than a regular Z that I can't list all here. The Z is also wider and longer I believe.

How could you possible duplicate that?

In addition I want a car that years from now I can say was a Real ZO6.

These HorsePower Wars will end one day with all the new EPA crap. I want to have a Z in my garage before the party's over.

If anything I will probably buy a C5 ZO6 and beat the heck out of it until the real Z arrives.

I could probably pick up a nice one for about 28k, drive it for 18 months and dump it for a 5k loss, plus rear tires

I think that may be my best option. Plus I can teach my teenage son how to drive a Vette before the real deal comes.

Something tells me in 2016 they will offer some super hot color for the Z and I want it.

With your logic, you'll be looking at getting a C8.

I have no idea what that means?

There is a backorder on the Z and most likely it's a year away for the first delivery according to Chevy.

Most likely I will have to order the 2016 unless they make some changes mid 2015 and I can order a Z.

C8 probably won't be for 6 years.
