thinking of doing a wide body conversion to my 08 base car. probably going to do rear quarters and front bumper. saw that tko sells a front bumper z06 style for a base car and also sells rear qtrs anyone use them for there conversion or have a recommendation on who to buy from?

Go all the way, Not that much more.

I did mine and was going to piece it together thinking I could save some money. I checked with every vendor imaginable and went with Gene from GM Partshouse. Having everything in the box at one time saved me a lot of money overall.

I've seen a couple of Z front bumbers (one real cheap listed now) and I believe you can do a bumper delete on the kit and save a couple of hundred dollars.

If you work it you can save some money. When mine was painted the shop went by time and material on each panel and the Velocity Yellow matched perfect. I think the 2 stage paint was about 1400.00

Lerxst very nice 26 sonic!!! I had a 1998 26 sonic but currentl own a 31 sonic with twin 496 ho's great great boat!!! so did you have a widebody kit done on your car? where did you purchase the parts and did you convert the whole car to a widebody (front , rear etc)?

First, my suggestion is to go with all OEM parts. Aftermarket is less expensive initially but most don't quite match the fit and finish of OEM.

I know from experience.

Also, I agree, do the whole conversion at once unless you are absolutely positive that you will never do the front. That's a lot less expensive to do than doing it halfway, twice. (or 3 times)

In the shop right now getting OEM real Z06 fenders and an OEM 427 take off hood installed.

I wanted to add ZR1 side skirts but the curvature of the aftermarket ZR1 fender is off just a little. They look good, but when I tried to add the side skirts there was a gap. The OEM Z06 fenders should solve that problem.

I could get by with the hood and it gets a lot of compliments, but I wanted a 427 carbon fiber take off hood while I they were still available.

And YES, I admit that I am nuts but after this change I am done.


That is why I advise the OP to go all OEM the first time.

No. Mine is a brand new 2013 427 purchased new in Oct of last year. Only put 300 miles on her and then right to storage. I will tell you wide body is the only way to go. This car is wicked fast enough for me at 505hp & 475 ft lb torque.
Regarding our Sonic. When I had it built I had all the options put on 500 EFI, 8" extension, external steering, Gaffrig shifters, K planes everything. Sonics are great boats. Handle rough water very well. Rock solid hulls.
My goal is to end up with (once the wife and I retire) a 38' Cig.Top Gun and a Ford GT. No Kids (dinks).
