I'm assuming they are being replaced no charge?? Dealers get weird about tire warranty stuff.

pretty alarming pic - tks to member achmed who just took delivery of his z51, today.
Apparently, a major issue with numerous cars @ sherwood park chevrolet, alberta, canada.
Don't know if base tires are affected - z51 has a different tread compound.
brand new z51

Yikes!! That is insane! I guess we know why they warn us to not use these tires in extreme cold. It's one thing to be warned but even I wouldn't have expected that. These tires are so soft that they must have actually froze solid for that to happen. I'm sure the all season tire brigade will be chiming in soon. My guess is that the tires will be replaced at GM's expense despite their warnings.

Then why would GM f'ing sell them with ONLY that option?!!

I'll tell you why. They were so dead set on setting handling benchmarks to be posted up by the reviewers that they made those the standard tires with full knowledge that they were ENTIRELY unsuited for winter in most of the U.S. Mine have scared me to death on DRY roads this winter and I hate them.

IMHO, these should have been optional with a good four season tire standard.

Bad judgement.

I'm actually a little angry about this. I fully understand what these tires are meant for, but I can't fathom any car company selling a car with the ONLY tires available being 2-3 season tires.

Absolutely no question. Really cold, move the tire in any way, shape, or form, and CRACK!

Tire performance is being pushed to the point that the care and feeding of these puppies is waay beyond what we have ever considered necessary.

Note to self, don't buy Tires from Al Gore.

Well, that sucks, but my question is, who puts Lime Green Valve Stem Caps on a $70,000 Corvette?

It isn't a Ricer. Does it have Neon under the hood too?

I think that shows that the tires are filled with nitrogen.

The green caps generally indicate that the tires are filled with Nitrogen and not plain air.

ETA... Elmer beat me to it.

Guys, the answer is in the post. ALBERTA!! If you think the US has been seeing cold weather just imagine what's happening up here in the great white north. We've gad weeks of insanely cold weather and it has to have had an effect on tires not meant for cold weather use.

Mine went straight to storage but I did drive it there (in Ontario) but I plan to go check my tires tomorrow as it was -16C the day I picked it up.

Learn how to control your right foot when driving in colder temps, or buy some A/S tires. This has also been discussed so much over the years in C6 AND C7.

I recommend you write the new CEO of GM a nice letter and let her know your opinion. And I'm not being nasty with that comment. Let her know your concerns.

Does anyone here seriously think GM wanted us to put our cars in storage for months or to have to go out and buy new tires just to drive it in winter?

The non-usability of these tires in cold weather was not disclosed to me at purchase and really makes me wonder if GM owes us a set of usable tires.

Seriously...all this crap about subzero cold weather testing and pics of camouflaged cars in sub zero temps. It was a propaganda and false advertising?

C'mon GM...fess up.

I had my car parked outside in -30, drove it in -24 a few times and my tires don't look like that. I just swapped them out however last Friday because I was worried about that same issue.
