Need advice! Scared of blowing my LS7!!
I have a 06 Z06. Its has a huge cam in it. All the work was done by a previous owner so I don't know the specs. With all the talk of Z's blowing engines, what do I need to do to insure mine is not one of those? It runs great and is a blast to drive. Is there something I can do to my stock heads to make sure they don't fail?
Thanks in advance!!

Is that something I can take to the dealer and have done?

Unfortunately even with a TSB out for it, many dealers don't have a clue.
Simply go in and complain of odd noises in the valve train that concern you. If they are smart they will do the wiggle test. Likely they will not be smart and you are left to either do it yourself or find an aftermarket shop locally that is smart enough to do it.

The previous owner just put a big cam in it and didn't do head work?

ya see if there is any engravings on the head like wcch, livernois, etc...
if u know headwork hasnt been done.. get the wiggle test done(call ahead to dealer).. find a used set of heads in the classifieds here, send to wcch and have the st.2 headwork done with che rockers.. sell ur heads after install.

LG Motorsports- that's a good thing. Their rep is very solid and there's a pretty fair chance they'd remember your car. I'd give them a call tomorrow to see if they can tell you anything you don't know about it.

Yep, call Andrew and they should have a history of what was done to the car. Nice car, by the way!

Did you get any paperwork of the build from LG along with a dyno sheet? I got mine already modded with all past receipts and the dyno data. My engine builder remembered my car and gave me the whole story behind it. Very valuable information to have. Then had the heads done because it had its work done before the head issue surfaced. Also did a cam switch to suit my driving style. Good luck with her!

It probably depends on when your car was done. Mine was done in '08 which at that time the shop had no idea about the valve guide issue. Even though they replaced the exhaust valves they did not replace the valve guides. All the work that was done was a cam, ported heads, ported intake, ported tb, dual springs, stainless exhaust valves, 160* thermostat, Long tubes, etc. All the things that go with doing a cam. These mods were done with about 2500 miles on the car. The car now has 10500 miles on it and I decided to pull the heads and have them checked just to be sure and I am glad I did! The exhaust valves wiggled 25 thousandths! Tight is 1-3 thousandths. The car had shown no sign of the valve guides wearing that bad. No noticeable extra valve train noise, no smoke at start up, nothing! It was basically a ticking time bomb! I got lucky! After the heads were cleaned up, machined for new guides, and a valve job it cost me about $700. Thats a lot cheaper than a new motor. Pull the heads and have them checked. If nothing else just for your own peice of mind.

Service limit is .0037 which is just under 4 thousandths. If your guides measure at 25 thousandths it would be .025 and I believe possibly the worse wear measurements we've seen.

if that's what they were, then that would probably be a "record" in here.

If he was referring to the wiggle measurements overall then "tight" would actually be .002 - .005, or 2 - 5 thousandths. That's why I was asking for more clarification since it is unclear why he would compare actual clearance measurements to wiggle measurements (which need to be converted.)
