Static noise from stock radio, no music plays. Please help
I have a 1974 Corvette all original including the radio. The radio has worked fine ever since purchasing the car 8 years ago, but recently I have been having some problems.
When turning the radio on I hear static. Not a constant hum of static just sharp sounds of noise as I mess with the volume and tuner *****. Also the little yellow light that indicates when you have a station tuned in does not light up. The stereo does seem like it's powered up when turned on. No matter what, messing with the L/R fade, volume, and tuner **** produces no music... just sounds of static!
This problem did actually happen once before but one day the radio just started working correctly again, and has up until the last month or so.
I did install a new gas tank and while under the car decided to wrap the antenna cable that goes to mast in a non-sticky wire wrap. Could this be causing the static problem and the inability to tune in a station? What other things could it be or should I check?
i would really like to trouble shoot this and hoping someone on this forum could give me check list on what to look for first. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thx!

Try moving the AM/FM selector bar back and forth 6 - 8 times rapidly. This will clean the internal contacts. This has worked for me. I do it about once a year when I hear static and no tunes.

Sounds like you may have disconnected the antenna cable when you did your wrap thing.
