Default My 91 Corvette goes 11.37 @ 122, video inside

I was digging through an old computer and came across this video of my old 91 Corvette running 11.37 @ 122. The details of the car are:

-6 speed
-Tires are 315/35-17 nitto drag radials, sixty foot on this pass was a 1.67
-Engine is a 383 with AFR heads and is NA
-It made 415 RWHP and 395 RWTQ on a dynojet 224
-I drove 80 miles to track, aired the nittos down, ran mid 11's, and drove home. With AC and cruise control.

Literally my dream setup. The newer bodystyle with a stroked l98 and a zf6.

I looked for 6 speed 91 with black interior for quite awhile before I bought that car back in 2005. Like you, I wanted the new body style, I wanted a 6 speed, I had to have black interior, and I wanted the L98. I had a 92 Corvette with a 383, and the LT1 based problems were just too irritating to really enjoy the car.

Nice shifting, BTW.

Yeah, I sold it 2 Februaries ago, so roughly a year and half ago.

I talk to the new owner about once a week, we've become good friends. He swore to me that he'd never spray the car, and just wanted something nice to drive that could beat up on some of the local 5.0 crowd.

He didn't any fuel injection experience, but was / is a very successful circle track racer that is very skilled at tuning an SBC with a carburetor. The computer and electronics stuff on the car sort of spooked him at first, but he is dabbling with it now. He made some tweaks to the car and headed out the drag strip with it about a month after he bought it. He managed to run a 12.2 @ 124. The 12.2 isn't terribly impressive, it just shows the inexperience at launching the car, but the 124 is pretty incredible. It never went that fast when I owned it, so it looks like his general knowledge of how to make the SBC perform is paying off at the drag strip as well.

Awhile later, he finally caved and started spraying it. He hasn't taken the car to the track on the bottle yet, but has admitted that he can't seem to get enough of the giggle gas. When we last spoke, he said he had been through about 25 (!) bottles. That's a whole lotta squeeze, especially on the street.

He and I actually met up last May in Cocoa Beach FL. He let me drive the car, and we went out on the town in it for a bit. The car is still fun, and I do miss it.

Anyway, I'm glad he is having fun with the car.

Awesome shifting! I just happen to know of a black on black 91' 6-speed, with low miles, that's possibly available for sale.

Thanks guys. That isn't shifting it at all, this dude is shifting it:

It's obviously ******** that it's only got a hotcam, headers, gears, EWP, and a 150 shot; but dude can row the gears none the less.

You know that you're "getting it done", when your shifts sound like an automatic. YOUR 1>2 shift was like that, IMO. His 2>3 shift was.

EIther way...couple vids of some fantastic drivers here!

Takes about 600 hp to get a 3000# car to go 130, so I agree...that guy isn't telling the whole story, probably.

Actually it made 498rwhp/547rwtq on a 150 shot, which is the configuration in the video. Stock LT4 with a hotcam, nitrous, gears, exhaust, etc. no hidden mods. It just ran its *** off.

Yeah, Jonecap is on the up and up, I was the camera man in those videos. His 96 was the real deal, no smoke and mirrors.

My 91 made 415 and went 122. If you stick to your '600 HP is what it takes to get to 130' theory, the math starts to break down. I really doubt it would take another 185 RWHP for my 91 to pick up just 8 MPH.

And the jonecap ride puts the final nail in it, his car didn't even make 500 at the tire and it went 131 a time or two. 128 was way more common, but still...

I moved out here from the Layton / Clearfield area of UT, so I know how bad it sucks racing up there. My car picked up about a second when I moved down here, so it would probably take 600 at the tire to push a C4 to 130+ up there.

Good point about the elevation. That dose skew my "calibrations" some times!

I was thinking of a C6 ZR1 as a benchmark though, which has 640 chp, ~3400 lbs and aren't those trapping right around 130? I could be off there.

I do feel that C4's are more efficient on a drag track than C6's though.

350 with a small cam and shot running 10s is damn good no matter how you look at it.

Course good air driving and setting the car up figure in there too but ET still is what it is. Good stuff
