Default Do you guys wax your windshield?

Hey guys,

I recently made this video and just wanted to share. Although in the video is a truck and not the Vette, this is the same procedure I use for my C4. Below are pics of the Vette after I cleaned and waxed the windshield!

What do we think?

I have always waxed glass after cleaning with a razor and Windex.

i have not waxed the windshield. what are the benefits, other than the obvious water beading properties?

I used to. It begins to cause the wipers to skip around the glass. If you do it, make sure to keep your wipers clean all the time.

That's what I do too. Works better than glass cleaner.

That COULD cause the wipers to "collide", and that could then cause a breakage in the pin mechanism inside the wiper motor cover, causing the wipers to not be able to park, and thus not shut off when you want them to.

I tried Rain X when it first came out and didn't like the results. I've never tried wax or detail spray but I think I'll give it a try.

dogfish I've been missing your videos, you don't post them very often anymore.

Back in high school, when I was driving my first car (1948 Plymouth, 4 door special deluxe), I was told by my hot rod neighbors that polishing a windshield caused bad glare at night. I was 16 at the time (am now almost 63) and did it anyway, cause I liked the reflections and the look of it. I find the glare much less than Rain X, and continue to wax the windshield on all my cars.

I have done both wax and rain X. Since it rains so much in South Fla, I tend to like RainX a lot more.

How does this happen?I have never seen it before. I find it hard to believe unless the wipers were on wrong they should always be in tandem and far way from one another.

Good video

I've been using Griots Glass Clay (with Griots Speed Shine for a lubricant) and Stoners Invisible Glass.

It only takes a few minutes to clay-bar a windshield...just like with paint, claying is a good prep for waxing or polishing glass.

I do that also, but follow that with a coat of Rejex and then wipe that when it dries. Bugs don't stick! Most just bounce off and the juicy ones will wipe off with a paper towel after they dry. I usually don't even have to use the wipers at all because the water droplets just flow off the glass from the wind. At night, when it's raining, as long as there are no other light sources close by, you can't even tell that rain is hitting the windshield. It makes the rain hitting the windshield almost invisible. I haven't had any glare issues either. I think cleaning and prep before you apply it keeps the smear/glare from being a problem.

I try to make one a week but not every one is Vette related so I cant post up here. Subscribe to my youtube channel to get updates. I just added a bunch of Vette Dyno videos that are pretty sweet! Glad you enjoy the videos! Makes it worth it to keep making them when people say stuff like that!
