Default '78 L82 will not idle when warm

Hoping someone can help me out on this..
'78 L82, automatic with Elgin Pro stock cam E1067; .325/.340 cam lift, .488/.510 valve lift, .300/.310 Adv. duration, 234/244 .050 dur.
It has a 600 cfm Edelbrock carb (1406).
Here's the problem:
Starts good, runs good until it gets warm (180 degree thermostat - and that's about where it runs). It seems as though when I'm running it down the road and come to a stop sign, the idle drops to around 700 rpm - which is fine - it doesn't kill. However, when I just let the car lug around at idle speed (foot off the accelerator) for a short distance then come to a stop, the idle drops way off and it kills. If I catch it quick enough and shift into P or N, the idle will pick back up to 1000 rpm (normal idle rpm). If not, I have to restart it and to get it to start I have to pump the accelerator once.
I've checked for vacuum leaks - isolated all vacuum lines - to no avail.
Power tuned timing at 3000 rpm.
Any knowledgeable advice is greatly appreciated. I've been battling this for a couple years now. Thanks

Just like to pass along what I found cured my issues: installed a 3/4" spacer block (I used phenolic) under the carb. Hope this helps someone else.
