Went to Bloomington Gold last week in Champaign IL. Got some unwanted rain on Sat. afternoon and it was HOT on Thursday but all in all it turned out OK. I took my 14yr. old grandson and he had a good time being around all the Corvettes new and old. After having my friends who has booth spaces with me letting them watch all the stuff my grandson and I took off for a walkabout ( just thought walkabout sounded cool so I put it in) and explored other vendors and displays. We went over to the new C7 Coupe and Convertible and looked at them both and even sat in the C7 Coupe. Yeah it was not to bad and as far as looks I will say it looks better in person then in the pic but when $$$ come to cents and over all looks of old and new, call me crazy if you want but give me the C1 & C2 Corvettes any day. You go buy a new C7 and drive it off the lot and you just lost $5K on the spot. Now the C1 & C2 still hold there value. Next are people looking. Sure for a short period of time the new C7 will draw all the people for a short time but after that short time the people will be around the C1 & C2 looking at there styling and outstanding beauty that has lasted for years and years. Some may call me but I will keep buying and driving my C1 & C2 Corvettes.

Well said, although I haven't seen a C7 I close up and personal.

Took me 30 years to get my '62; now my wife wants one of her own. Bet it won't take her 30 years to get one!

My heart is definitely with the old cars: solid axles, midyears and early C3's. They don't depreciate and their styling is timeless. However, I have always owned a newer Vette to travel in. They are great cars. I like to buy them with low miles. Bought my C6 Z06 with 2,500 miles on it for about 1/2 the sticker price. Stupid fast and even gets 27 mpg with 505 horsepower. Hard to beat that.

The old cars just never get boring. After all these years driving them it's like the first time every drive

Most C7 owners would be extremly pleased if they ONLY lost $5,000.00

Mike I feel the same about C1 to C2 tho I do have a C6. Of all the Corvettes I've owned the 55 gets more attention then any other Corvette I've owned .Last night I was getting gas and about 7 people got out of their cars to take pic's of the 55 using their phone . One knew it was a Corvette and the others were asking what make it was. I've gotten gas before but this time it took me about 30 minuets to leave answering questions . That's why I drive it beside loving to drive it ,The 55 never gets that kind of attention at a Corvette event.

I Love the C1 & C2 as much as as anyone But remember they were once the new car and the first owner lost his butt when he drove of that Chevy lot.

my guess is 50 years from now those first c7's will have appreciated back to or past current value. There just won't be any gasoline to run them...

67 is the high water mark in Corvette design and there will never likely be more attractive Corvettes than the C1 & C2 generations overall. No argument there. But why all the disdain for late models? This is not a comparison of like things. A c6 or C 7 is the vastly superior article in engineering, comfort, safety, and performance. My 2013 is the perfect daily use Corvette, and I use it like my other late model cars. No way yhe same can be said of my 67 435 or the many midyears I've owned before it.

The 53-55 series to look like kit cars. At shows I have noticed people look at them and walk away. The 56-62 are classic TV icons. They may not drive the best but there is no doubt Route 66 was a huge advertisement for GM. The 63-67 coupe was described in an ad long ago as a " little boys dream of a Russian space capsule ". The design is no less than timeless. Fifty plus year old design which still captures the imagination back to the days of driveway mechanic muscle cars.
I have owned big block C-3s, just no magic involved. Late models are great cruisers.... to me a Camry with a GM make over. My wife likes her C-3 convertible and I am happy with three mid year coupes. The empty stall needs a C-1 which is the only candidate I am on the trail of, 56-62 of course ! Lifes simple pleasure includes a search that one day will uncover the final piece of the picture. Owning a Corvette is much like being a Marine....... America's finest !!!!

I think a lot of the problem is that many C-1 C-2 owners drive them for the attention they get and the newer ones don't get as much attention. To me, it's all about the car, not the attention.

I understand that everyone is different and everyone like different things. That is what makes the world go round I think. Just speaking for my the 53-55's and the 63-67's can not be beat for body styling mostly in the 63-67 I think the coupes are the sharpest. I know that the convertibles are nice and I like them also but it is the Coupes that tickles my funny bone the most . To me it is just something about the over all lines of the coupe .

My 67 was ordered late April early May 1967. Built June 23 1967, and delivered to Placke Chevrolet St Louis Mo. in early July 1967.
By the time the car got to the dealership the person that ordered it found out what the "new" 1968's looked like and turned down the 67 and reordered a 68. But I guess the moral to the story is what's new today will someday be old and wanted by someone.
By the way my 67 was never sold as new car. It wasn't sold untill
2 Jan 1968 and by that time it had to many miles on it to be sold as a "new" car and sold to it's first owner for $3,887.25 The cars window sticker? $5421.00.

The 63-67 coupe is by far the most beautiful Corvette ever made. A few weeks ago, I had my 65 at a show and there was a man and his young son standing behind the car for about 10 mins. The dad was explaining to the boy the styling of the car and pointing out the how the sloped rear window ties into the raised fenders and all the other features of the car.
I'm particularly fond of the view from the rear myself.
