I have to sell my 2008 C6. I'm thinking about replacing it with a C4. Has anyone gone from a C6 to a C4? What is the difference in feel?

How does a C4 accelerate?

Does a C4 require run flat tires and $100 synthetic oil changes and the highest priced gas? Is a C4 less expensive to maintain?

How many miles on a C4 is too many for it to be reliable? Are these engines bulletproof or is there a difference between the LT1's and pre LT1's? I kinda like the style of the older C4's with the vents on the side.

I am thinking about getting a vert if I can find one in my price range. Anything I should know about verts? Do they leak?

I came from a C4 to a C6. I'm never going back. It was fun, and I put a lot of work into it, but my old 1988 vs my 2005 isn't even fair.
In my opinion the L98 from 88-91 is a good motor, and the LT1's from 94-96 are good as I think GM figured out how not to ruin the optispark.

Oil changes on my LT5 is about $70. (2 - 5 quart jugs and filter)

I like the the LS3. Since it has a duel fuel table for 87 and 91

1. How does a C4 accelerate? well my 94 goes from 0-60 in 5.3 secs according to various road tests. top speed ranges i have seen from 167mph to 172mph for an LT1.

Is a C4 less expensive to maintain? i use Mobil 1 full synthetic in both my 84 and my 94. its about $40 for the oil and $0 or less for the filter. i use premium gas, 93 octane form Sunoco only. the C4 does not require run flat tires.

I kinda like the style of the older C4's with the vents on the side. they key to reliability is prior maintenance. many members here have gone over 200k on the original engine. the engines are built extremely well and will serve the owner with many years/miles of use.

Any older car is going to require a maintenance budget. Nothing is foolproof.

Newer cars are expensive, but have a warranty to mitigate maintenance costs. Older cars are less expensive but require the ability to either maintain them yourself or to pay for the maintenance when needed.

Other than that a Vette Vert is a great thing to have if it fits the budget, no matter what generation it is.

OP, here are my 2 cents for you.

I've owned three C4s, and driven all new ones including a C6 ZR1

Buy a late C4 95-96

The use Mobil 1 oil, like your C6

They carry a spare tire, and likely need to be replaced or upgraded with a late model GM car like GTO or Cadillac's spare tires.

My 92 had 195,000 miles, and my 95 is at 138,000 miles.

I would never buy a convertible again. My 92 leaked, and I could hear all road noises.

Now, this is what you are going to expect going from a C6 to a C4. From a Buick ride, you will go into a bumpy car ride. A C4 do not handle like a C6 unless you are willing to spend some cash on suspension upgrades. A C4 will never give you the MPG a C6 LS engine gives you. A manual C4 may give you an average of 26-27 MPG, an automatic an average of 20-25 MPG. My 95 has the 3.07 gears, and it gives an average of 22 MPG on the freeway.

You brought up the word leak regarding the convertible, 85% or more of all LT1s leak oil from the front. Nothing a cardboard laying on your garage can't fix.

How a C4 accelerate? Let's put it this way, it is a 20+ engine design, and accelerates slower than a C6, but fast enough to get a speeding ticket.

To be perfectly honest, I actually liked my C4's interior better than I do my C6. I see a huge resemblence in the layout of the coming C7's innards to the 92-96 C4's.

My 92 is my 9th Vette. I had a 2008 ZO6 going into retirement and decided to not take the expense of the upkeep, insurance etc. with me. The 92 was my choice because I had owned an 89 vert and loved the look and feel of the car. I too, as someone else has said, am glad just to be in a Vette. Quite a difference in all aspects but still, first and foremost, it is a Corvette! My others included: 1968 vert, 1975 and 1976 coupes, 1989 vert, 2003, 2006, 2009 coupes and the 2008 ZO6.

Took delivery of my 2005 C6 in Oct 2004. The C6 is a great car, fast, smooth, nothing like my C4. But I like the roughness of my '89 vs. my C6. The C6 did not give any real sense of speed until you were in "Go DIRECTLY to Jail land" vs. the overwhelming sensory inputs the C4 has at freeway speeds.

If you own a C4 you need to be prepared to pay through the nose when something needs attention or be able to DIY.

My C4 is my DD, 350+ miles a week, I leave my new car at home 99% of the time for when the family needs to go anywhere together. I usually spend at least one weekend morning going over what needs attention so I keep off the flatbed, often whole 2 or 3 day weekends depending on what I am doing to it. The more you drive a C4 the better, if they sit too long between drives they seem to have wierd stuff start going buggy.

Good things are you will have a sleek, trim purpose built Vette, the cool clamshell hood, a cockpit style interior - FYI- you will want to be trim and fit to be comfy in a C4. One thing to look for on a used C4 is if the steering column is solid. Often in C4's our more portly brethren use the steering wheel as a lever to lift themselves up-n-out.

I had my car almost a year before I realized I was doing that very thing and I'm not even over weight. It did take a little getting use to but after a while you just slide in and out with no trouble.

I hope all this goes well for you and we would be glad to have you over here in C4

I had a 2005 C6, loved it but it was my only car and not practical that way, so I sold it and got a sedan and a C4, and I love the C4 more than I would have thought. It feels better, more sporty, but the C6 is also a great car. The C4 was cheap, easy to fix (I take it to local mechanic) but it has been reliable so no trouble there. My wife likes the C4 better, too. She likes the seats and says it is just as comfortable.

My vert doesn't leak and is very quiet---just curious---why not a C-5--seems like there are some good buys out there?
