Default fan shroud position

Hello -

I haven't been on the forum for quite a while. I have recently begun working on my 1978 Silver Anniversary Vette again. We are getting ready to install the front clip. The instructions that I have say that the distance from the front lip of the hood surround to the rear hing bolt should be 43". Ironically, the is the distance to the front hinge bolt. The fan is also hitting the shroud. Go Figure. If I lower the front frame extensions the fan shroud tilts away from the fan and it no longer hits. But then the nose of the front clip is too low. I am going to check the motor mounts but the measurement to the hinge bolt won't be affected by that. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The images are way too large to upload on this forum. I'll find another way to post them.

The 43" figure comes from Eckler's (at least, that's where I saw it first years ago). It's ballpark but I used it to success on my '68. If memory serves, it's to the center of the first hood hinge bolt, not the second.

If the fan is hitting the shroud, and the shroud is correctly installed, you will probably need to reposition/shim the radiator support.

Where do you have them hosted? just post that link.. If you can't upload them anywhere..

Open the picture in Microsoft Paint.. then click on re-size. change this to 25 percent on width and height and save...

Or when you have it open in paint, hit the Control and W key at the same time. A menu will open to re-size. Change the size (again to 25 percent), save and upload..

Here is a link to the front we just put on.. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...6912924&type=3

You'll learn a trick or two there.. Like how to install a front end without screws or rivets!

My fan is hitting the shroud on mine as well. Tried adjusting the shroud with no luck. Still hits. I will be watching this tread pretty close.

That looks great. Tomorrow we will pull the front clip and the radiator and try again with some photos. There seems to be some play where the radiator support bolts to the brackets on the frame horns. I still have 1.5" to go on the passenger side and more than 2 on the driver's side (to get the 43" to the firewall drip edge".
