Default I put a deposit on a blow1974 stingray and am plaing to drive it back acrosse country

So i just bought a 1200 hp 8-71 blown 502 .030 over 1974 stingray and am driving it across country. what should i expect for mpg out of a 4 speed richmond t 10 and 3.73 diff with drag tires on the back? What kind of tools should i bring and what should i be checking on the journey home? I havent bought the car yet but what should i be looking for during the inspection? Thanks for your help this is my first classic car!

I saw a Camaro with a 675 HP blown engine at a car show. The owner trailered it to the show because it got 2 MPG.

Bring a truck and a trailer. Check the tie downs every hundred miles or so.

it is my understanding that a blower will increase mpg if you stay out of boost. im hoping for around 9 mpg with the 509. dead serious btw

Unless it's a new style with a bypass it's going to lose MPG.

Do you have pictures or more information?

Buy a GPS and plot your gas stations waypoints, you are going to make a lot of pit stops.

Says it runs on 100+ octane. That could be difficult for a long trip. They still sell octane boost?

Seriously. With those rear gears and a 4 speed I wouldn't expect 4mpg on its best day with a tail wind. It will be turning well over 3000rpm to maintain 60 on the highway. Suppose it still has the stock fuel tank of 18 gals basic math says that's a maximum of 72 miles between full tanks! That is going to cost you a bundle and take days to go across the country!

If you got the money for the fuel and deal with pain of hearing high engine revs, GO FOR IT! I wouldn't even drive my vette cross county line with 4.11 gears getting 9 MPG.

You're purely joking correct?

Start a thread and post info on your trip. 427Hotrod does that when he takes a road trip. Makes for interesting reading.

FWIW- Ol' Red has 4:11 gears and a BB. I trailer it if I'm going any distance. Bill Gates couldn't afford to feed it. Last time I bought gas was late last fall before it got cold. 10 gallons was $65, and it's almost empty again.

That Corvette is purely a neighborhood car and taking a highly modified, near drag-strip car cross country is not an undertaking for the timid. Look up Hot Rod Magazine's trip with the blown yellow Crusher Camaro (named because it was saved from the crusher). It was a heck of an adventure, with numerous breakdowns and ensuing hilarity. If you've got mech skills, money and time, I say go for it, but expect the unexpected, cause it won't be like slogging your Toyota Corolla, that's for sure. It'd be best to bring someone along too...

PS: There ain't no staying out of boost with a roots type blower, it's ALWAYS boosted, 100% of the time, unlike a turbocharger. You might get nine mph max! The Crusher Camaro, got eight...
