Yeah, same here. z06 gets 30mpg on the highway and then I get off the highway and hello 12mpg. Worth every drop of gas though.

Same here. The MN6 is great for fuel economy and at the same time, you feel like a badass as you clutch in, shift gears, and clutch out.

It's amazing the impression people have of "Corvette" and "Gas Guzzler". Since the 6 speed was introduced back in the later 80's Corvettes have been returning 30+ MPG on the highway and can pull over 20+ in town if you're easy on the gas. Tell people that and half of them don't believe you.

hmm. that's a pretty substantial difference. the 405hp z06 is rated at 19mpg in town but i never see it. just sitting in traffic you can watch it tick down. real world seems to be 17s.

highway number is spot on though at 28-29mpg

as for the mpg since the late 80s. my 1990 c4, spd got 15-16 in town and 22-23 on the highway.

mpg on the c5 is substantially better than the 4 stock vs stock

I was thinking as I typed that the TPI car's up to '92 might be lower I never owned one and was not sure. My '93 returns 31mpg cruising at around 70 if there are no substantial hills. I've owned TPI (auto's) and LT1's and the engines are night and day.

The other common misconception about 'vettes seems to be Insurance. If you're over 25 and don't have a bad driving record they are pretty cheap to insure.

I never understood the attraction to the Prius. There are Fords and GM's out there that get the same or better mileage. And then you don't have to be seen in a Prius.

Since this was brought up, here are some pics of a 27 Ford Trak-T roadster project I am involved with. It's got a 90 HP EV electric motor. We're using ten 12 volt batteries for the motor, and one 12 volt battery for the gauges. We should have it done by the middle of summer. This ain't no prius!

It's a VW rear end and tranny. I'll post up the finished product after we're done , sometime this summer. Oh, by the way, my 02 averages around 25 MPG around town and 32 MPG on the freeway.

I drove a Prius last fall while in Detroit on business (rented). It is a fine little bullet of a car and the folks on the interstates around the city drive really fast; if you're not doing 80, you're going to get blown off the road. While it did everything I needed it to do and got terrific mileage even at super hiway speeds it still is NOT a Corvette.

When the car needs gas I put gas. The rest just follows.

It is impressive just how great the gas mileage is on the C5. But to me the real treat is being able to get behind the wheel of a world class sports car and get that mpg.
