Default how many people with no engine problems?

So i just got my 08 Z06 with 18k miles. I plan on driving it (i.e. not a garage queen).

I'm curious, how many people don't have any engine problems and have over 20k miles?

in your response please post your year, mileage, and tracking history...

I'm tired of seeing all those dropped valve threads, it makes it seem that 90% of Z's have this issue...

***Update

So far 34 cars with no engine problems.
I didn't count a few that are under 10k miles, but did count 4 cars that are at 15k miles and with track history.
All other cars are around 30k miles or more (2 at 25k miles, and 2 at 29k miles). There are some that are 60k+ miles and no problems.

Please come in and let us know if you have no problems.

My Z06 is a joy to drive - but an engineering/manufacturing disaster. Typical American garbage quality.

At 9K miles the rocker arm bearings went south. Then, at 10K miles the heads started to go south. Thankfully, caught before engine blew up.

GM/Chevrolet ought o be ashamed - but, of course, they aren't. Will undoubtedly catch up to them like with any other product. Would never buy another Corvette, after owning a number of them since 1977.

167,000 without any issues and there are some with over 200K without issues. I guess I have stronger valves than all the others Heading out on an 8500 mile cross country trip in a couple of weeks.

With 39,000 miles on my showroom stock, never raced, 2006 Z06, I thought I had no problems...until I checked. Found the spark plug threads oil-soaked. Result of bad valve seals, which went south due to bad guides. Fortunately I detected this before anything catastrophic happened. "Only" cost me $4,000 to fix, and I could have gotten by for considerably less. My Corvette has been the most expensive, and the most troublesome vehicle I have ever owned in my life. I bought my first new car in 1974, so that is quite a list. I'll not be buying another Corvette. Here's hoping your experience is more pleasant.

Only had mine a short period of time but I took care of the potential valve "issue" within the first 200 miles of my ownership. She had 19,XXX when the valves were done. Then about two weeks ago threw a cam in. Pretty happy with it

EDIT: Also was told nothing was out of the ordinary or out of spec when doing the heads. I do not have official measurements.

Enjoy the car

First, to say I am a "Corvette Guy" would be and understatement, having owned them for over 30 years.

I currently own a 09-Cyber/Grey Z06 and it has been for the most part trouble free. I purchased the car with 2700 miles and it currently has 22,000. I do 2 or 3 HPDE's per year and have been at the NCM HPDE at VIR for the last 5 years and will do my 6th with them in June. This car has approximately 10 track hours on it with no engine problems.
Apart from the track times I drive the car easy and do not go over 2500 rpms until oil is at 150 degrees. I use Mobile 1 10w-40 High Milage for the ZPP in that oil.

I have followed the "valve issue" with great concern and have talked with my local Chevy dealer service mangager and the reginal GM rep about my concern showing evidence from the Forum and the few postings from GM. They listened to my motor and said to drive the car with no worries. They are also aware of the fact that I do HPDE's.

My waranty will be up in the next year and I will be getting either new or reworked heads. Until then I am keeping my fingers crossed and reading all the "valve" posts hoping for a true definitive answer to the problem.

I will still drive a Vette as long as I can afford one and get in and out of it because I am unapologetically a VETTE GUY.

Regards to all of my Forum friends. God Bless

My 2006 has 45,000 miles on it, about 5,000 of them on the track - probably around 60 hours of hard track running.

I haven't had to do any engine work to it and it's still running strong.

It's stock except for a Killer Bee intake and tune.

Fantastic and trouble free car!!!

It's definitely time to get some serious preventative maintenance, however.

I drive it to track events and I'll c'ya at VIR the end of June!!

Bob

'08 2LZ w/ 30K, never titled bought new in March '09, never tracked.
Most reliable car of any kind I've ever owned, so far.
Then again I don't worry. I've a GMPPwhich'll last well beyond the time/miles I plan owning the car.
Motor frags, new motor.

However IF *I* acquired a Z06 out-of-warranty or otherwise unqualified for a warranty a head job would the first thing I'd have done, no questions asked.
New LS7s & installation's simply far too costly to gamble, IMO.

No where near 90%, in any event.

I picked up my 07 z06 with 56k on the clock... was concerned about the head issue but I'm only driving the car for a month before I deploy for a year and then either lingenfelter 660 kit OR a head, cam, meth and blower package.

not sure if any work was done to the heads as it's all stock minus a K&N intake but the service records on the carfax show nothing besides regular maintenance

My 09 has approximately 60,000 miles, and is a DD, no problems of any kind.

My 08 has about 30k on it. No problems of any kind....but tomorrow it may drop a valve, so after the Eureka Springs Weekend I plan on having heads, cams, and headers. I kinda think it's more of an excuss for me to get some real HP, but the valve thing would always be in the back of my mind, so that's my reason and I'm sticking to it.

2009 with 25,000 miles and zero problems, but I'm as nervous as a cat sleeping in a room full of rocking chairs.

I'm going to be proactive and have new PRC heads installed right after my warranty runs out. I might be a able to have my heads reworked cheaper, but I'm going with new heads with ALL new parts, from an aftermarket company vs reusing some of GM's parts. I'm budgeting $5000. $3,000 for the heads and $2,000 for the installation(including cost of driving the car to DFW and then lodging while the shop R&R the heads).

2006 with 40k on it, never tracked yet, just some nice spirited driving on the highway.

Did not feel anything was wrong, as a preventative i decided to do heads and when they did the test i was beyond specs. Video is up here from HPAddicts.

07 with 54k - my DD and an 08 with 18k and not a single problem. Always keep clean fresh Mob 1 with the GM high performance filter at all times. Great cars and fun to drive. My 2c.

I have an H/C/I 06 Z with 35K miles total and approximately 9K since mods. At 26K miles (bone stock and never tracked), I did a lethal cam/Fast intake/NW TB and WCCH stage 2 heads. Guides had excessive wear. So in theory, I never had engine problems until the heads were pulled for inspection.

I am a bit skeptical of your claims to be candid. You smell like a troll.

I'm not sure why, needle bearings and "heads going south" aren't uncommon on this forum.

'09 bought at 8500 miles, stock LS7, now 28K, 11 track days, no engine problems, but I used 2 quarts of M1 0W-40 between 4200 mile changes. Still under 5/100 and also have GMPP. I would not be a happy camper if the engine blew. No wiggle test, yet.

To just get the valves done is like 2-3k. And then it's a peace of mind. Or you can do it like me, 8k and get another 100+ horses to the wheels
