Default Insurance Surprise

I have to say, I am SHOCKED. I currently have a 2013 Infiniti FX37. I have Geico as my carrier and carry top of the line 100/300 coverage with very low $250 deductibles. When I quoted my new Vette, I expected my insurance to skyrocket. Afterall, I am going from an SUV (allbeit a performance one) to a TRUE sports car. Guess what... keeping the identical coverage, my insurance actually GOES DOWN $18 every 6 months. I am falling more and more in love with this vehicle.

That's good news. I'm surprised they can give you an accurate quote already with the car not even being out yet. I need to call up USAA and see how much mine will be. Last Vette I had when I was in Germany and my insurance was $300 a month!

My 2013 C6 GS is $300 less per year to insure than my 2011 Honda Accord Coupe. Go figure.

The percentage of theft claims for Vettes is very low because most owners keep them locked in garages and only drive them once a week to the Dairy Queen.

There is no way they can give an accurate quote without a Vin# or on a car not yet in production
The 2014s are not showing in the rates yet.

They are probably just keying in the info for a 2013 Corvette and adding a couple of extra bucks on top of that, so what the OP is getting is an approximate amount as to what he's going to pay. It was like when I was looking for a C6 and asked my insurance agent what I would pay going from a 98 into an 05 or 06 and he quoted me an approximate rate for an 06, and when I bought the 05 he gave me the final numbers and it came in a couple of bucks less per month (since he quoted me for an 06)

Were you able to find out how much horsepower it really has from your insurance agent? What its top speed is? What it does the 1/4 mile in?

100/300 is certainly not "top of the line" coverage. If you have any significant assets, I hope you have a Personal Liability Umbrella policy to protect your assets. Very easy to exceed $100K/$300K in medical bills in a serious accident. Beyond that, they go after your assets.

I'd check with Mercury. They are the cheapest insurance I have found. I was with AAA getting every discount possible (multiple car, good driver etc). About 10 years ago I got a DUI and it forced me to check around. Mercury it turned out was cheaper with the DUI than my AAA policy without it. I didn't even lower my coverage.

It's worth making the call! I used AIS for my broker.

That said, I have an 09 Z06 and always marvel at the fact that the insurance rates on the Corvette are as low as they are. My insurance actually went down going from an older BMW 745i to a new 2007 C6 Convertible. When I got rid of the 07 and got my 09 Z06, the rate stayed the same.

I think much of the insurance cost has to do with the age and driving record of the insured as well as the company writing the policy.

Actually - you are incorrect. They base it off of the sequence of the VIN which is the same for all of the Vette's. They car specific VIN isn't finalized until production. They have all of the vehicle specs and can 100% give an accurate quote.

100/300 is the top of the line AUTO ONLY coverage where I am located. Yes, I have a PLU as well.

Geico has the best rates for Corvettes. When I bought my 2013 Vert Allstate raised my rates once again. So I did a little shopping and found out Geico was $800 cheaper for the same coverage as Allstate.
